So the Yankees gave us a loss the other day by avoiding the sweep in Los Angeles by beating the Angels. This is still a team that is playing badly, with a recent record of 1-5, and I'm going to go against them as they face the Dodgers in the first of a 2 game series.
Hyun Jin Ryu is pitching for the visiting Dodgers today, and his stats are the main reason I shall be backing his side. He has a 1.59ERA over his last 3 starts, giving us the confidence of a pitcher in good recent form. His overall numbers are a 6-2 winning record with a 2.85ERA. He is facing a Yankees batting lineup that have struggled for runs recently, averaging about 2.5 runs over the last 9 games!
Phil Hughes goes for the Yankees, and I feel there is no reason to expect a tight game from him. At home he has no advantage, with his last 2 starts here ending in heavy losses for the Yankees, with 23 runs surrendered! He has an awful 6.52ERA at home this season. In his last start, against Oakland, he lasted just over 4 innings, and gave up 3 runs while walking no fewer than 5!!
BETTING VERDICT
Despite being 6-0 up the last time out against the Angels, the Yankees gave up 5 runs in the final inning and almost blew that game so let's not start believing their form has changed. They're going to get hit today, and probably be dead before Hughes hands the ball over to the relief corps. Take the Dodgers.
