Drogheda have been in poor form of late and their league position is certainly reflecting that as they sit second from bottom but 8 points clear of bottom side Bray Wanderers having played a game more than them. Its been a terrific few weeks for Shamrock Rovers. They had a brilliant 1-0 win in the extreme heat of tel aviv in the Europa League and then faced Juventus in the next round. Despite losing 3-0 on aggregate Rovers performed very well over the two legs. They followed the away tie in Italy with a 3-0 thumping of arch rivals and league champions Bohemians.
Rovers have been in terrific form of late and have gone 12 games unbeaten in the league. They are second to St Patricks Ahletic who are on the same points but lead on goal difference. If it wasnt for a very shaky start to the season Rovers would be comfortably ahead at the top of the table. Last season Rovers came runners up to Bohemians by only four points.
However this season Rovers have got better and better and now have a much bigger and stronger squad. Bohemians have started to go backwards and are currently in turmoil over finances and it has hit their form on the pitch and they are now 5 points behind the two leaders. St Patricks Athletic have performed very well but they dont have the squad Rovers have and not many expect them to last the pace. This is Rovers best chance of winning a title in a long time and they can be expected to be beating teams like Drogheda.
