PREVIEW
The last time Bulgaria met England, the Three Lions tore through them to win 4-0. Somehow, England have dropped enough points to be ahead in the group only on goal difference. A draw here will simply not do, because no one wants a repeat of the last Euro tournament. Englands current form is encouraging though, with Capellos team having lost just 1 of their last 15 qualifiers for international tournaments.
Fabio Capello will be absolutely spoilt for choice on Friday. Pretty much most of his team come into this on a high with great current form. A large number of callups have been made for players plying their trade at Manchester United and Manchester City, who racked up 13 goals this weekend. Rooney banged in a hat-trick against the Arsenal U-10s to add to his already great form this season (it's the hair-transplant, really it is) and there is also Darren Bent, who is arguably one of the most dangerous poachers we have.
The midfield has the likes of Lampard, Barry and Parker, meaning there is the quality to really take control in that part of the pitch, and while Ferdinand and Johnson are both out injured in defence, Phil Jones and Smalling can surely do a job here for England, if their performances for Manchester United are anything to go by.
This is a big match for England, who play Wales next. There is a tricky tie coming away at Montenegro, which will surely be a must win, so this fortnight requires maximum points, starting tonight. England might have won 4-0 in the first match, but there have been changes in the Bulgaria set up since then.
German legend Lothar Matthaus is now in charge, and has overseen a 3 match spell when Bulgaria have avoided defeat. Bulgaria managed draws against Switzerland and Montenegro and notched a win in Wales.
In Matthaus' 3 games in charge, Bulgaria have allowed just 1 goal and managed 2 clean sheets. They will surely set up to defend here, in my opinion, leaving it up to England to find a way through.
BETTING VERDICT
Bulgaria have not managed to score a single goal in qualifying at home so far. They are not going to come forward here to start with, something we can only expect once they go 1-0 down.
I reckon England will find a way to break Bulgaria down and win. That is priced at 1.55 at Pinnacle and should be a nice bet for the evening but if you fancy something with a better payout, go for England -1 on the Asian Handicap which returns your money in case it turns out to be just a 1 goal win.
