2011-11-23 - Arsenal F.C vs Borussia Dortmund
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Match Preview :
Arsenal welcome German side Borussia Dortmund and they will aim to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League tonight. A win will definitely achieve that aim. However, a point is also enough to see them through if Olympiakos gail to win away against Marseille.
But make no mistake, Arsenal will want to qualify by winning this match knowing that topping the group will give them an easier tie in the second round.
The good news is that their record on home soil reads well, with the Gunners unbeaten in their last 25 group games in North London. They have won 20 of those fixtures, with their last defeat coming against Inter Milan way back in September 2003.
Wenger's side have also gone 12 home games without defeat at any stage of the Champions League, including play-offs, proving that they play their best football at home. And it has to be said that the Gunners have also fared well against German opposition, winning their last five matches against Bundesliga sides in England.
However, Dortmund will be eager to change all that, having pushed the Gunners hard during the reverse fixture when they initially clashed. The reigning German champions picked up a 1-1 draw in front of their own supporters and know they have to take something from a trip to the Emirates, and look for favours from the other sides in the group, if they are to keep their Champions League dream alive.
Team News :
Arsenal will have midfielder Abou Diaby (ankle) available again, but Tomas Rosicky(thigh) misses out. Meanwhile, Laurent Koscielny could continue at right-back in the absence of Carl Jenkinson (back) and Bacary Sagna (ankle). Also Midfielder Ryo Miyaichi (ankle) remains out, as does Jack Wilshere (ankle) and Kieran Gibbs (hernia).
The visitors doesn't have any new injuries and will arrive with a full strength side. Their only slight concern involves Shinji Kagawa, with the Japan international struggling with toothache. Marcel Schmelzer, who sat out Germany's recent friendly internationals, returned to domestic action on Saturday and will be hoping to start this match.
