Clearly, Bayern are going to win the Bundesliga title this year, which will be hard for Borussia Dortmund to take, seeing as they are losing the title they have won the last 2 years running.
Dortmundy still have this tournament to win a domestic title, and what a satisfying title it would be if they can knock out the runaway league leaders on the way?
Make no mistake, Dortmund are more than capable of winning, even here at the Allianz. Their last 7 meetings with Bayern have seen them lose just once, 2-1 in the Super Cup. Indeed, Dortmund thrashed Bayern 5-2 in the finals of this very competition last year, and in the only league meeting this season they came away from this stadium with a 1-1 draw.
Sure, Dortmund stuttered a bit last weekend when drawing 1-1 at Monchengladbach but that was without their main weapon, Robert Lewandowski, who some are saying could sign for Bayern at the end of the season. He has 1 goal in this competition but is capable of a lot more.
Just look at Lewandowski's Bundesliga scoring record and you'll know what he's capable of. Like Ronaldo last night, he will want to make a huge statement for his team in the cup, to ease the pain of having their league title taken from them by such a margin.
While Dortmund get Lewandowski back, Bayern will have to make do without Ribery, who is suspended. Arjen Robben should get a start in his place and I suppose if you're going to have a punt on a Bayern player to open the scoring you'd have to look at either Gomez or Mandzukic.
THE BETTING VERDICT
I have a sneaking suspicion Dortmund are going to deny Bayern the win in this one. The odds on the home win are not high enough for me and I'd say the best choice there would be to take Dortmund with some sort of AH start to avoid defeat.
For my bet, I'll stick with both teams to score, which is what happened in the last meeting, played right here.
