Newcastle United comes into this match in high spirits after beating Fulham 1-0 last Sunday courtesy of Cisse's last minute winner. Now they will have it all to do as they welcome Portuguese side Benfica needing to overcome a 3-1 defeat from the first leg.
Papiss Cisse's 12th minute goal in Portugal could come in their favour as Newcastle only needs a 2-0 win in front of their home faithful due to the away goals rule. Newcastle was somewhat unlucky to lose the first leg by 3-1.
Newcastle will need to pay special attention to Cardoza and Lima at the front as the duo have contributed 53 goals for the visitors this season and two in the first leg. Benfica have scored over 100 goals this season so that means Newcastle really have to step up a gear and defend solid at the back if they are to keep a clean sheet in this match.
Newcastle's goalkeeper Tim Krul who came back after six weeks out with injury, played a great match. Although it needs to be said that if Davide Santon isn't so careless with a backpass the end result could have been different. Also Benfica's third goal came from the penalty spot.
Also it should be mentioned here that Cisse hit the post twice in that match, had those gone in, the result would have been different. Newcastle could keep the same formation as against Fulham last weekend. But they will not be able to field Yoan Gouffran as he is ineligible for the match. However, Newcastle have shown they can break through Benfica's defence.
Newcastle still have players out injured. The likes of Fabrico Coloccini who if is in the side would have been a great addition to the side at the back. Also out with injuries are Santon and Cheick Tiote. Hatem Ben Arfa will only be on the bench at best.
Newcastle can take heart from the performance of Borussia Dortmund who despite being down and out on their own patch in the Champions League against Malaga, came back and scored two goals in stoppage time to prevailed.
