Wednesday Carling Cup Results : Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City progress

Teenager Fran Merida netted his first Arsenal goal as Arsene Wenger's young Gunners beat Liverpool 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.

Just back from the Under-20 World Cup with Spain, the 19-year-old former Barcelona trainee drilled in a fine goal in the 18th minute as Wenger's faith in youth was once again justified.

Emiliano Insua equalised for Liverpool in the 26th minute with another scorching shot in an open first half.

Nicklas Bendtner, now a regular in the side but coming back from an injury sustained in a car crash, produced a powerful finish after 50 minutes to put Arsenal into the last eight.

---

Chelsea cruised into the quarter-finals with an easy 4-0 fourth-round victory over Bolton at Stamford Bridge.

First-half goals from Salomon Kalou and Florent Malouda put the home side in command before Deco and substitute Didier Drogba finished off Gary Megson's side after the break.

Bolton wasted a couple of chances to reduce the arrears but Chelsea were always in control despite the loss of goalkeeper Hilario through injury in the first half.

The win maintained Chelsea's 100% home record under new coach Carlo Ancelotti and even without the likes of rested captain John Terry and his England team-mate Frank Lampard, the Blues continue to look very good at home.

---

Manchester City cruised into the Carling Cup quarter-finals, brushing aside an outclassed Scunthorpe 5-1.

The Championship side had tried their best at Eastlands in this fourth-round tie, and at one stage produced a fine first-half equaliser from Jonathan Forte after Stephen Ireland had given City an early lead.

But City were ahead by the break through Roque Santa Cruz, and second-half goals from Joleon Lescott, Carlos Tevez and Michael Johnson set the seal on a commanding performance.

If you like poker freerolls then may I suggest checking out our Canbet Poker Review on the main site and joining up asap.

Canbet have a $2,500 freeroll starting in 16 hours (called Grand National FreeRoll) where the top 80 places are paid.

Canbet are part of the OnGame Network, and have been around for ages - they're a good safe place to play - but unfortunately US players will have to miss out as they're not accepted at Canbet these days.

OK. The freeroll starts at 21:00 UK time, or 20:00 in Europe, or 8am (!!) my time ... so I've gotta set the alarm clock to wake up.

It's limited to 2,000 places - there are still over 1,000 spots left - I'm entered and plan to play so I hope to see you there ... look out for me ( PK10PK ) .. and remember I NEVER bluff ...
;-)

Here's a direct link to CanBet Poker if you want to check it out now.

Poker Freeroll at 32Red

I like the 32Red Poker Room (we rated it at 90% - see our review) it's clean simple graphics make it easy to play and being a PRIMA skin you know that you've got a reasonable RNG generator and access to a network of tournaments.

But the other good thing about 32Red Poker is that they also run several of their own tournaments and free rolls each month that are exclusive to their site.

On Wednesday night (at 9:45pm) they're running a Euro2008 free roll, with a minimum of $1000 in prizes (down to 50th place) and they'll bump the prize pool up by $100 for every Irish goal and by $500 for every goal by San Marino.

There are no hooks to this - simply download the 32Red Poker Room register for the free roll and you're in ...

See you in the poker room.
