Blackpool win promotion to Championship

Blackpool celebrate their first goal in a 2-0 win

Blackpool's return to English Championship football after a 29-year exile was sealed with a 2-0 win over Yeovil in the League One play-off final.

A goal in each half from Robbie Williams and Keigan Parker ensured that Blackpool won their tenth game on the trot - breaking a club record that had stood for 70 years.

While the one-time FA Cup winners dominated the first half, Glovers goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall was not actually tested before Williams curled in a free-kick from 25 yards in the 43rd minute.

Frustratingly for Yeovil, the free-kick was awarded against Terrell Forbes despite the defender making only minimal contact with Parker. Parker then gave the Seasiders a comfortable advantage in the 52nd minute with a wonderful long-range strike.

Yeovil, who were in the Isthmian League just a decade ago, battled and battled but never really looked like getting back in the game, with Marcus Stewart wasting their best chance late on.

That's two wins for the favourites now - and we've got a preview for the final playoff game as well :
- West Bromwich Albion v Derby County

BRISTOL ROVERS WIN PROMOTION

Walker scred twice for Bristol

Bristol Rovers 3-1 Shrewsbury

Richard Walker scored twice and Sammy Igoe added a third as Bristol Rovers came from behind to beat Shrewsbury 3-1 in the League Two play-off final.

Stuart Drummond gave Shrewsbury a great start with a glancing header which opened the scoring in the third minute, but the Pirates were soon back on terms through Walker, who netted from close range before a precisely weighted chip left Shrews goalkeeper Chris MacKenzie despairing and Rovers in front by half-time.

Shrews winger Marc Tierney was sent off by referee Michael Jones following a late challenge on Stuart Campbell in the 88th minute which earned him a second yellow card and Town's misery was completed when Igoe slotted deep into injury time.

Regular readers should have made a profit as Merlin tipped the result in the Bristol Rovers v Shrewsbury preview on the main site.

We also have betting previews for the other two games this weekend :
- Blackpool v Yeovil Town
- West Bromwich Albion v Derby County

Good luck with your punts !
