Paddy Power covers the 2008 WSOP with final table bets

Ireland's largest bookmaker Paddy Power is offering a "To Make the Final Table" market on the upcoming 2008 WSOP main event in Las Vegas.

The biggest stars in the poker world will compete alongside thousands of amateurs at the Main Event, which is scheduled to begin on July 3rd and play down to the final table of 9 players on July 14th. At this point play will be suspended until early November, when the final table will be played out on live television.

Defending champion Jerry Yang is available at 300/1 and 2006 champion Jamie Gold is available at 200/1, while some of the world's most famous players, including Gavin Griffin, Phil Ivey, Patrick Antonius & Gus Hansen, make up an elite group of professionals available at 100/1.

WSOP Main Event Begins - A real test of stamina

The 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event has started ... and we are stuck in the middle of "Day One" as the organisers take a "ground-hog day" approach to handling the 6,000+ players who have entered this year.

They will be hosting FOUR separate "Day Ones" each with over 1,500 entrants beginning and expect to whittle the field down to a more manageable 2,400 to 2,500 for "Day Two"

The effect of which is to have the "main event" tournament last over 12 days duration (including a rest day before the final table) - with 11 different playing days - and the last nine players expected to compete in 8 days of cards.

Event 55 - $10,000 World Championship No Limit Holdem

I think that I've got some way to go before having the discipline to enter these vast real-world multi-table events.

For most of us "internet only" players the idea of sitting down at a multi-table tournament online and playing means putting aside a short chunk of time of a few hours.

We can regularly get though 8,000+ players in a Microgaming Prima poker event at Bet365 Poker or 32Red Poker in about 3.5 hours. Many players last less than 10 minutes.
;-)

(oops - I just busted out to aces - while writing this blog post)

Play poker at CanbetAnd if you've got an hour or less then you can play a 200 person TURBO tournament at Canbet Poker with a fast rising blind structure and often you'll get done in under 60 minutes.

Online Poker

Online Poker

Todays online poker blog entry is nothing more than a cynical attmept to get Google to rank this blog entry on online poker high in the blogsearch rankings for online poker.

I searched google for the key phrase "online poker" and saw all the big online poker rooms where listed there.

#1 Online Poker listing was Full Tilt Poker which was good to see as they are one or our favourites.

Then there were the spammy entries for 888.con and Pacific Poker (bad online poker places in my opinion) before entry #4 was a Wikipedia entry for Online Poker.

Rounding out #5 was top online poker room Bodog Poker which was then followed by lessor online poker sites like Pokerroom, Pokerstars, PokerPlex and such like.

Greg Raymer talks poker at the WSOP (VIDEO)

Greg Raymer Speaks about the WSOP and the US Internet Poker Ban

Here's a rare thing - after hearing from all the doofus amateur players in the first week someone has actually decided to seek out some quality players - and we finally get an interesting interview with a poker player at the WSOP!!

Greg Raymer gives an interview during an event in this years WSOP and has some pretty interesting things to say about the WSOP level structure, about the internet gambling ban, and other things.

Well worth a look - and I've gotta say I was impressed with the man.

Take a look at a WSOP Bracelet

The 2007 WSOP bracelet

WSOP Bracelet Less Tacky Than Usual !

I still don't know that these will be actual fashion accessories (except for wanna-be rapsters who don't know when to stop the BLING) but the new WSOP bracelets do look much less gaudy - and are certainly an improvement on previous events.

The bracelets are manufactured by watchmaker Corum and are fairly carefully crafted looking at the detailing and the tiny inserted jewels.

The normal event winners will receive a bracelet with 53 diamonds as shown in the picture.

The $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E event will feature a special version with 91 black diamonds and two rubies.

While the winner of the $10,000 Main Event will get a bracelet with 136 grams of 18-carat white gold set with 120 diamonds in an extravaganza of over-the-top bling that even celebrity jail-bird Paris Hilton or Elton John would not wear.

2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP) starts

The World Series of Poker has alreeady started in Las Vegas, with the first event beginning on Friday.

It was a $5,000 buy-in "mixed holdem" event (where you have to play both limit holdem and no-limit holdem) and it attracted 452 entrants.

It's taking 3 days to play out and the final table has just been determined with 9 players left after Saturday's play. Check out the Poker Lab Rat blog as they'll give daily updates in their WSOP category.

Other details of the WSOP event is that it's taking 47 days to complete the 55 poker events running from June 1st all the way through to July 17th !!

The "main event" is of course #55 on the list and being the finale does not start until July 6th, while the biggest buy-in event is the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E Championship (Event #39) which starts on the 24th of June.

That's one hell of a buy-in, and the action is sure to be fierce as the professional players seem to consider the H.O.R.S.E event their true World Championship - mind you that's probably because none of them can get near the final table of the main event these days.
