Analysis:

A.S Roma enters this match with a mission – that mission is to win at all cost if they are to have any hopes of winning the Scudetto from Inter Milan, although their chances are slim if Inter Milan wins their match at the San Siro. Atalanta meanwhile have nothing left to play for as they are assured of survival while a place in Europe is out of reach as well.

Roma comes into this match winning their last game 3-0 against Sampdoria. Even though they managed four shots at goal but still managed to score three goals past Walter Mazzarri’s team. The goals came from Christian Panucci, Claudio Pizarro and Cicinho ensured that Roma got 78 points this season which is their highest ever points scored, beating their previous achievement in 2001 when they won the Scudetto then. Despite the absence of Francesco Totti to a knee injury they have done well without his presence on the pitch as they have scored seven goals in their last two games, with at least 15 different players getting on the scoresheet for them this season.

Coach Luciano Spalletti knows his chances of catching Inter Milan is slim despite the fact that Inter were beaten by city neighbours A.C Milan in the Milan derby last weekend. As it is now, Inter Milan will win the Scudetto if they can beat Siena, and it will be more memorable for them as Sine has a few ex Roma players in their side.

Atalanta are unbeaten in their last two games, after losing three games in a row against Inter, Napoli and Juventus. Atalanta are safe as it is with 45 points and this match is meaningless for them as it is.

But Atalanta have to be given credit in their last match as they managed to resist a late fightback from Livorno to win 3-2. Atalanta had been 2-0 up only for Livorno to reduce the deficit and come back into the game. Instead of settling for the draw they pushed hard and won the game 3-2 two minutes from time.

Atalanata’s coach Gigi Del Neri will want to do well against A.S Roma as he coached them before in 2004 and was sacked after a string of disappointing results. Their last meeting saw A.S Roma beat Atalanta 2-1 at the Atleti Azzurri Stadium in January. A.S Roma also won by 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico last season why they hosted. Interestingly six of the last seven meetings between the two clubs have ended 2-1, with Atalanta winning three of them as well.
