Top scorers, League leaders and newly promoted Celta Vigo entertain one of the bottom clubs, Racing Santander. Can Celta keep on winning………………

Celta Vigo - 2-0-0 5-2

An opening day victory against Malaga saw Celta off and running in this year’s “gather enough points to avoid relegation” campaign. However, an away match in Madrid last week probably saw them as writing off three points – but that didn’t happen. A little but lucky with the goal that never was however, don’t take away the fact they had a go at a dodgy Madrid side and scored a well taken first goal before Pavon stuck his hand up to give the penalty away. The point is, you have to be in the opponents’ box to enable any chance of a goal. They managed three.

Baiano and company are on a high and this looks to be another “six pointer” with Racing hoping to avoid relegation as well as Celta. However, can Celta cope with being favourites having scored 5 in their first two games? Celta are playing good, attacking football at the minute and as long as they don’t get carried away they can ride this out for another few games. However, their next two games are against Villareal and Sevilla so this game is even more important for the three points.

Nunez is a doubt with an ankle injury but there are no other team issues. Baiano and Lopez are enjoying life at the top and the whole team are on a high at the minute. Wrong time for Racing to visit I think.

Racing Santander - 0-0-2 0-2

I picked Racing out to go down this year as the loss of 13 players and the signing of 8 will have too great an impact on a team that regularly struggle anyway. With Benayoun, Moran and Juanma gone I think they are weaker than last year and just don’t see where they can pick up the points. However, so far they have restricted defeats to 1-0 in each game. Saying that, Sevilla managed to miss a few rather than Racing playing a tight game.

Again, changes afoot and it’s expected that Racing could line up with all eight new signings as they struggle to find the right combination. With the changes in mind and confidence low with two defeats and facing a high flying Celta Vigo this all points to another loss for Racing I’m afraid.

Conclusion

Celta have struggled in previous meetings with Racing however this year will see a change. Celta are on a high, know this is potential “six pointer” and realise they have two tough games coming up.

Racing lost 13 away games out of 19 last season as it is, are low on confidence and are struggling to find their best team. They will take time to gel but as each defeat passes……

Think a confident, high flying Celta will go out to attack Racing and go for the three points. I think they’ll get them……..
