A Sports Betting Pick by Auls
UEFA Cup - Quarter Finals
Thursday, 10th April 2008 - KO 19:45 GMT
GETAFE (SPAIN)
Getafe will be very happy to have gained a priceless away goal from their first leg in Munich but will be only too aware that this tie is far from over. Their best chance of making it back to this competition is through the Spanish Cup this season as they are currently 12th in the Primera and are 8 points behind 6th placed Sevilla in the final UEFA Cup spot.
They are 6-4-5 at home this season where they have scored 18 goals and conceded 18. In this competition Getafe are 4-0-1 at home and have knocked out AEK Athens and Benfica in the last 2 rounds.
Getafe have only lost 2 of their last 16 games in all competitions. However, both defeats have come in their last 4 games although they have also managed a 0-0 draw at the Nou Camp against Barcelona last Sunday. They have not won any of their last 5 games.
Getafe have only lost 1 of their last 7 home games in all competitions but will be disappointed that that was last time out. Before that defeat they had won 4 of their previous 5 home games. Michael Laudrup will be concerned his side has only 1 clean sheet from their last 5 games at home.
Getafe have a number of injury concerns for this match with Mario, Cata Diaz and Pablo Hernandez all out. Esteban Granero is also suspended. A brighter note is that Lucas Licht is back from suspension.
BAYERN MUNICH (GERMANY)
Bayern Munich know they have some real work to do if they are to overturn this tie but come into it knowing they have a 9 point lead at the top of the Bundesliga. They have an 8-4-2 away record with 21 goals scored and 10 conceded. This means they have the best away defence in the German league and also the joint best away attack.
Also no other team has won more away games than Munich. Bayern have a 3-2-0 away record in the UEFA Cup this season and have scored in every away game. They knocked out Aberdeen and Anderlecht in the last 2 rounds.
Bayern have only lost 2 of their last 27 games in all competitions, but one of those was a 1-2 home defeat to Anderlecht after they had won the first leg 0-5. Munich have only lost 1 of their last 13 away games in all competitions but havent won any of their last 2.
Ottmar Hitzfeld will have some confidence in knowing his team has only failed to score in 1 away game from their last 10 in all competitions and they have scored in every away game in Europe.
Bayern will miss the services of Daniel van Buyten and Hamit Altintop for this game. Hitzfeld will rely on Luca Toni to get him goals, the current joint top scorer in this competition.
HEAD TO HEAD
Bayern Munich should really have a healthy lead coming into this match after last weeks performance but missed a number of opportunities before Getafe punished them with a last minute equaliser.
PREDICTION :
Getafe have a number of issues with injuries to defenders and I think they will need to ride their luck a little to get through this tie. Bayern, however, generally score away from home and I can see them doing enough to win this game.
They have performed well away from home in Europe too but the first goal could be critical here. If Bayern can score it I would expect them to go on and win the game.
The Pick :
GETAFE 1-2 BAYERN MUNICH
