2008-05-11 - Birmingham City vs Blackburn Rovers
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Birmingham welcome the visit of Blackburn to St. Andrews for the final day of the season and even a win may not guarantee their top flight status in the Premiership.
The Blues have won just one of their last nine games and are currently second from bottom and looks set to join relegated Derby County to the English Championships next season. Their defeat to relegation rivals Fulham could be the decisive game that sealed their fate as they slide into the relegation places a point below Fulham and Reading.
If Reading and Fulham get wins in their matches at Portsmouth and Derby, then Birmingham will be back in the Championship for the second time in three years. However, if Fulham and Reading are both beaten, then a point would be enough for Alex McLeish side as they have a better goal difference.
However, Mark Hughes side still has a chance to qualify for the Intertoto Cup by finishing in 6th spot. For that to happen they will need to leapfrogged Aston Villa to go into the Intertoto Cup where a place in the UEFA Cup is on offer.
With regards to the team news, defender Liam Ridgewell will undergo a late fitness test before kickoff after sustaining an ankle injury in the defeat against Fulham last time out. James McFadden is having after effects after his surgery but McLeish is hopeful he can still feature.
As for Blackburn, Hughes is hoping that striker Benni McCarthy will feature after missing their last two games with a hamstring injury. Christopher Samba who plays in centre back is expected to start despite a thigh problem after he came through against Derby.
