A Sports Betting Pick by Auls

Andy Murray v Tommy Haas

The odds available for this match are showing some disrespect to Haas and can probably also be given due to Murray receiving a lot of British support.

Both players have had easy passage ways to this stage of the tournament and both should be confident that they can get the win. It is a shame that Haas has only recently returned from an injury else I would have called his price excellent value.

The players have met 2 times previously with each winning 1 match. Haas actually won the last meeting between the 2 in March at Indian Wells in 3 sets.

Murray has all the tools to come through this game but the only angle I can find is to go with him winning in 4 sets. Haas is a tough character but is also prone to having mental breakdowns.

Jurgen Melzer v Arnaud Clement

Melzer has had to come through 2 tough 5 set matches to reach this stage of the competition. He has not had the best of seasons and has never gone beyond this stage at Wimbledon. His backers must have been surprised to see him run so close by Jesse Levine in the last round.

Clement is very experienced on grass and has only dropped 1 set in his passage to the 3rd round. He has previously made it to the 2nd week at Wimbledon, but he has not had the best season on the tour so far. However, grass is his favourite surface and he has secured his better results on these surfaces over the last few seasons.

The players have not met in competition previously.

I am very surprised that Clement is not made a clear favourite in this match and I think he has all the tools to beat Melzer in this match up. Clement is the more experienced grass court player and I feel the price is factoring in Melzer's win over Ljubicic from the 1st round.

Janko Tipsarevic v Dmitry Tursunov

Both of these players have come into this round of the tournament with impressive wins behind them and I am expecting a solid game of tennis between the two.

Tipsarevic caused one of the shocks of the tournament with a 4 set victory over Andy Roddick in the 2nd round and there is always a fear that a player may have a slip in standards after a result like that. Tipsarevic has a solid grass game, only losing in 3 sets to Novak Djokovic at the Artois Championships 2 weeks ago, and also reaching the 4th round here last season.

Tursunov had an impressive 5 set victory over Nicolas Mahut in the 1st round, but he had many chances to wrap up the victory with even more style. He has had some of his best results on grass in recent seasons, although he has struggle coming into Wimbledon.

Tursunov has also reached the 3rd round here at Wimbledon for the last 4 seasons. In that time he has made it to the 4th round 2 times, while being knocked out 2 times also.

The 2 players have met twice, with 1 win each, but their last match was 2 years ago now when Tursunov won.

I think the odds are skewed in favour of Tipsarevic because of his last result, but I honestly feel Tursunov has the game to beat him. Roddick was very passive on 2nd serve returns against Tipsarevic, but Tursunov will be very aggressive and attack it at will. Tursunov can have mental breakdowns while playing, but he seemed confident in his game after his 2nd round win and I will favour him again.

Richard Gasquet v Gilles Simon

Gasquet looks like he really is picking up form at the right time and is close to playing his best tennis at the moment. He comfortably disposed of Mardy Fish and Sebastien Grosjean already and will look to make short work of his fellow Frenchman so as to get ample rest for his likely 4th round match with Andy Murray.

Gilles Simon is a solid performer but has not previously played that well on this surface. He has beaten Olezniczak and Agustin Calleri in the first 2 rounds with the loss of just 1 set and also recently made the Quarter Finals at Nottingham. Simon has never passed this stage at Wimbledon before.

The 2 players have met 2 times before with Gasquet winning both and both matches were during the 2006 season. Gasquet did not drop a set in either match, including a 6-3 6-1 win on grass. In their 5 previous sets contested, Gasquet has won 30 games while Simon has won 9.

I dont see anything but another comfortable win for Gasquet. He is on form and is better in all departments than his opponent except possibly for movement. The speed of the surface will only aid Gasquet's game and I expect him to cover the handicap.
