The Australian top flight action continues on Boxing Day with this bottom half clash in the A-League between second from bottom outfit, Western United, and their 8th placed visitors, Melbourne Victory, in all-Melbourne encounter at AAMI Park.

Western United did manage to register all three points though last time out in the A-League when they recorded a 1-0 home win over Western Sydney Wanderers and this could serve as a timely boost ahead of Boxing Day’s clash as the hosts seek to post back to back wins for the first time since the end of May last season.

Western United made a poor start to this new campaign, losing four out of their opening five league games having been handed defeats by Melbourne City, Sydney FC, Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United, but the hosts have since rallied by winning two of their last three games which includes a previous 3-2 win away at Wellington Phoenix.

However, recent results have been a mixed bag for The Victory as the visitors have picked up just two wins from their last six league matches overall which came in the form of wins against Newcastle Jets and the aforementioned Macarthur.

Melbourne have also suffered three defeats within this six-game period though, losing to Western Sydney Wanderers, Melbourne City and Adelaide United, so they have shown that they also possess a vulnerable side to their nature.
