A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

PRESTON NORTH END v YEOVIL TOWN
Football – England – League One
Friday 9th September 2011 – Kickoff: 7.45pm

Preston entertain Yeovil Town at Deepdale on Friday night having started their League One campaign brightly and sitting in joint 6th place as they look to bounce straight back up to the Championship.

Preston North End

The Lillywhites endured a very disappointing season as they were among the relegated clubs along with Sheffield United and Scnthorpe United that suffered the dreaded drop. But, a change in manager with former Hull City boss Phil Brown in charge could well see the Lancashire outfit challenge for instant promotion.

Brown, well known for his heroics with the Tigers is just the man for the job and will be looking to replicate his previous achievement of getting Hull City promoted to the Premiership.

An early scare in their season-opener saw Preston lose 2-4 at home to Colchester United, but since then the ship appears to have steadied with three wins and a draw. Perhaps no surprise with Colchester who possess a deadly attacking force and will surely be among the league’s highest goalscorers with the likes of Wordsworth and Odejayi.

Preston dusted themselves off though and have now strung together three wins on the trot; a 2-0 away win at Chesterfield was followed up with two home wins over Exeter City (1-0) and Notts County (2-0) respectively, while Brown will be particularly pleased with not conceding also.

Goals have been shared around so far, but I expect a greater return from experienced forwards Neil Mellor and Iain Hume along with former Burnley midfielder and talisman Graham Alexander pulling the strings in midfield with Paul Parry (ex Cardiff City) in tandem. These four players alone should excel at this level.

Yeovil Town

In stark contrast, Yeovil have not got their League One season off to the greatest of starts with just the solitary win over Oldham Athletic 3-1 at home. Away from home they’ve picked up just two points out of a possible six with a 0-2 loss at Brentford, followed by two draws; 1-1 at Walsall and 0-0 at Tranmere Rovers.

Former Bristol Rovers midfielder Gavin Williams, former Aberdeen forward Steven Maclean and experienced midfielder Paul Wotton are probably the Glovers main dangermen, but I think there’s a distinct lack of depth in quality here, and this could be exploited by the stronger teams in the league such as the MK Dons, Charlton Athletics, Sheffield Uniteds and of course Preston.

The Betting Verdict

These two sides have not met before head-to-head so no previous indicators to go by, but I fully expect Preston at home to be too strong for tonight’s opponents – a possible scoreline of 2-0 to Preston.

The Pick :

Preston 2-0 Yeovil
