English FA CUP

2011-12-13 - Grimsby Town vs Salisbury City

A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

GRIMSBY TOWN v SALISBURY CITY
Football – England – FA Cup 2nd Round Replay
Tuesday 13th December 2011 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Blue Square Premier side Grimsby Town entertain Blue Square South outfit Salisbury City in their FA Cup second round replay at Blundell Park on Tuesday night.

Grimsby Town

Grimsby are no strangers to cup replays as their previous round win against Port Vale was decided over two fixtures after gaining a creditable 0-0 draw at Vale Park, then taking them back to Blundell Park winning 1-0. I see a similar modus operandi here against Salisbury City following the 0-0 draw at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium last weekend.

The Mariners have progressed to the second round via a qualifying round 5-0 thrashing of Ashington AFC, 0-0 and 1-0 versus Port Vale, and a replay against Salisbury City.

Grimsby's home form in the Blue Square as an indication has improved over the last few weeks and are on an unbeaten five match run with wins over Kettering Town and a crushing 7-0 win over Stockport County, along with home draws against Newport County and Mansfield Town, while drawing at Bath City who are fighting for survival.

Grimsby’s league home record stands at 6-2-4 28/16, and along with York City are the league’s highest goalscorers on home turf. The Mariners have also progressed through to the next round of the FA Trophy after they beat Darlington 3-0 at home on Saturday, so confidence is sky high amongst the ranks at the moment.

Forward Liam Hearn (13 goals, 3 assists) is on fire at the moment, along with Anthony Elding (8 goals) who also scored against Darlington, and midfielder Michael Coulson (4 goals, 8 assists) is also in good form and bagged a brace against Darlo too. Other important support players include Craig Disley (4 assists), Serge Makofo (4 goals) and Robert Duffy (3 goals, 4 assists).

Salisbury City,/h2>
Visitors Salisbury City will also be in confident mood as they are currently on a four match unbeaten run which includes FA Trophy cup wins over Weston-super-Mare and Lowestoft Town along with a good 2-0 win over Tonbridge Angels which halted a five match losing streak and their slide down the table in the BSS. They also of course drew 0-0 with Grimsby in the previous cup fixture.

Salisbury’s league away record stands at 1-2-5 7/17, and along with Boreham Wood are the league’s lowest goalscorers on the road in the division.

They are also six matches without a win on the road and this may well be their undoing on Tuesday night. Forward Jake Reid (7 goals) is their dangerman.

The Betting Verdict :

The Whites have done well in their recent cup forays, but I feel this may be a bridge too far against an improving Grimsby outfit who are growing in confidence after some impressive results.

I have to back Grimsby in this one who should be too strong in quality and I’ll go for a 3-1 home win here.

The Pick :

GrimsbyTown 3-1 Salisbury City
