Both sides goes into this match seeking their first win when they clash at the Stadium of Light as Sunderland hosts Reading. Brian McDermott's Reading managed a point against Stoke in their opening match after it finished in a 1-1 draw. In midweek however they were well and truly beaten by Chelsea with a 4-2 scoreline despite some positive display.
Sunderland on the other hand, managed to start off with a goalless draw against Arsenal in their opening match and will now be looking to take all three points against the Premiership new boys on Wearside. As it is now, Martin O'neill's side are without a win in nine Premiership games having drawn six and lost three - a run they will be looking to end against Reading.
And the home side will be pleased with the arrival of Steven Fletcher from Wolves, with the striker available to start this match. But Martin O'Neill will be glad to know that only two teams have managed to get all three points since his arrival and that is the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United. Meanwhile, Reading have won just one of their last five trips to Wearside.
Reading will be aiming to repeat their impressive form on the road from last season, when the Championship winners ended the campaign with the second best away record, winning 13 matches away from home.

The hosts will be without Black Cats duo David Vaughan (hernia) and Wes Brown (ankle) for this clash. Also out will be the likes of Phil Bardsley, who faces a long spell out after ankle surgery. Luois Saha could start this match after he came on as a substitute against Arsenal last weekend, while new-boy Fletcher could also start.

Reading's manager Brian McDermott has no fresh injury concerns ahead of his side's trip to the Stadium of Light. Meanwhile the likes of Jem Karacan is still working his way back from a broken ankle while Jimmy Kebe is out with a hamstring injury until the International break. Even though striker Jason Roberts is back from suspension but a calf issue as well as lack of match fitness means that he is at best will start from the bench.
