2007-10-13 - Minnesota Gophers at Northwestern Wildcat
A Sports Betting Pick by Jim Feist
Minnesota @ Northwestern---------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------
You have to wonder why Minnesota (1-5 SU, 2-3 ATS) got rid of Glen Mason to bring in Tim Brewster. He's already under the hot seat, after an overtime loss to Bowling Green, 32-31; an OT win over Miami of Ohio, 41-35; and a 42-39 loss to Florida Atlantic!
Minnesota allowed 511 yards to BG, 577 yards to Miami and 583 to FA!
Brewster brings the spread offense in, and it's been productive behind redshirt freshman QB Adam Weber senior RB Amir Pinnix averaging 29 points, and over 200 yards rushing and passing.
However, Weber has been turnover prone and this defense is terrible.
They allow 36 points and 368 passing yards per game! They are off a 40-20 home loss to Indiana giving up over 200 yards rushing again.
Northwestern (3-3 SU, 2-3 ATS) has been up and down, but they come into this one on a high note, off a shocking 48-41 win at Michigan State.
The offense rolled up 611 yards as QB C.J. Bacher was 38-of-48 for 520 yards, 5 TDs and no picks! Bacher and the NU offense also benefitted from an astute game plan by coordinator Garrick McGee that featured a high volume of screen passes and other quick routes to slow the Spartans' aggressive pass rush.
Michigan State came into the game with 23 sacks in five games but trapped Bacher only once into a stumble-sack that cost the Wildcats two yards.
Even more shocking when you realize that the Wildcats couldn't beat Duke, losing 20-14, despite rolling up 506 yards.
QB Bacher is a junior who missed six games last fall with a stress fracture in his left leg. Running back Tyrell Sutton is listed as day-to-day with a sore ankle.
Regardless, this offense is cooking and will tear up this awful Minnesota defense.
The Pick :
Take Northwestern to win
