A Sports Betting Pick by Caged
Stamford Bridge
Sunday 20th September 2009 - Kickoff 4pm
Chelsea (1st)
Total : 5-0-0 12:3 Home : 2-0-0 5:1
Chelsea have looked formidable so far this season with a 100% record in the league.
It may be true that they havent come up against heavy opposition and they can be flat track bullies, but there is no doubting that, so far, under Ancelotti Chelsea look efficient.
The Blues scraped past Porto in the Champions League midweek, sorely missing talismanic striker Didier Drogba due to his European suspension. Drogba is free to play on Sunday.
The diamond formation employed means they are strong through the middle but are reliant on the full backs for width, and there is the question of how far Ashley Cole will be able to run on with Aaron Lennon matching up against him.
Tottenham (4th)
Total : 4-0-1 12:7 Away : 2-0-0 7:2
Harry Redknapp has extensively rebuilt Tottenham and they have also looked good in the opening fixtures, including an opening day victory over Liverpool, and with a red hot Jermaine Defoe scoring for fun there was talk of top four finishes before Man United came to town and knocked them down a peg.
The other victories have again come against sides you would expect Spurs to beat anyway, so it is difficult to judge exactly where Spurs are at present.
HEAD TO HEAD
Stamford Bridge is not a happy hunting ground for Spurs though. Chelsea have won 3 and drawn 2 of the last 5 meetings at Stamford Bridge.
THE VERDICT
Derbies do level the playing field and Spurs come to the Bridge with more confidence than in previous years. A draw is not the worst pick on a value basis and recent head to heads back that theory up.
However, after coming unstuck at home to Man United last time out, away to Chelsea looks a big ask for Tottenham.
Chelsea are a different team with Drogba back and fresh and it is difficult to see how Tottenham's ever changing centre back pairing will cope with him.
There should be a goals in this one as 9 of the 10 games the two teams have played in so far this season have ended over 2.5 goals.
