WIGAN
Wigan lie 18th as things stand, and are going to entertain Aston Villa with one hell of a problem in terms of availability of players. As many as 6 players will be out for this one, and I can't help thing they're kinda buggered before things even start.
Figeuroa and Thomas serve bans while Moses, Cleverly, McCarthy and Di Santo are injured. Not exactly what you need when you've got a stack of games coming up in the next 3 weeks and not good for this game, where they face an Aston Villa outfit that is due a win now, and have come close in giving Arsenal and Manchester United some tough games.
Roberto Martinez's side did earn a draw in their last match, against Everton, as they did in the game before that, against angelic Stoke City. They have not lost at home in their last 4 here but they are just too weak here from absentees to the first team. This is a huge chance for Aston Villa, and I fear Wigan will pay for it.
ASTON VILLA
Gerard Houllier pissed off more than just a few Villa supporters with his his words and reaction to the loss at Liverpool. Having enjoyed a very successful spell in charge of the scousers, he obviously has a soft spot for them, not that anyone from Birmingham cares.
Villa are 14th, but enter this game off a win that broke their 3 game losing skid. They pulled off a 2-1 win against West Brom in a local derby last week, with Heskey and Downing getting on the scoresheet. Downing is the top scorer this season, with 5 goals, and will play in this game, as will Albrighton, who has helped the side as it deals with injury problems of it's own.
Villa have won just one away game so far, and drawn one. They will not get a better chance of improving that away record, which includes six losses. They might be banged up themselves, but not as bad as Wigan. Of what is left of both teams, Aston Villa are much better in terms of quality, and apart from Rodellega, I can't see what Wigan can throw at them.
BETTING VERDICT
The price on Aston Villa is huge, and just has to be taken in this spot, as Villa have a great chance of not just winning, but thumping Wigan.
