PREVIEW
The Phillies stopped their 2 game skid in style last night as they beat the Atlanta Braves in the opener of their 3 game series by a 9-0 score. Most impressively, they managed to put up 9 runs when the opposing starting pitcher, Derek Lowe, had a 1.50ERA in his last 3 starts! The Phillies will face a very good pitcher again but I can see them scoring a few runs and countering with an excellent pitcher of their own. Lee helped his team blank the Braves yesterday and I feel Atlanta will do well to even score a few tonight.
The Atlanta Braves send out Tim Hudson tonight. The Right-hander is 14-8 with a 3.05ERA and comes into this having won 9 of his last 11 matches. In his last match, against the Washington Nationals, he gave up just 1 run in 6 innings.
Hudson has a 7-7 career record against the Phillies.
The Phillies counter with Vance Worley, who owns a 10-1 mark with a 2.85ERA. His last outing saw him pitch perfectly to give his team a 6-0 lead before getting hit for a 3-run homer just before he left. Still, that 6-4 win over the Cincy Reds means Philly have now won the last 13 starts made by Worley!!
Worley has faced the Braves only once this season, when he threw 1 scoreless inning from the bullpen.
Worley has a brilliant 1.96ERA in his 9 starts at home. He should be able to build on that amazing pitching because Atlanta have a lot of trouble scoring here. The last two matches here have ended 9-0 and 14-1 to the Phillies!
