The Yankees have only recently swept Atlanta at their gaff, but found themselves on the losing side yesterday. The Braves won in New York 4-3 to end the Yankees 10 game winning streak. We have some good pitchers on the hill today. This one should be tight again.
The Braves start Tommy Hanson, who is 7-4 with a 3.32ERA. Hanson has been very good in recent games, allowing just 4 earned runs in his last 3 starts! His head-to-head against the Yankees is limited, with just 1 start, but he did pitch into the 6th inning of that game without giving up a run, so I expect him to have control here.
The Yankees batted just .156 yesterday and are averaging 4.52 runs at home, which may well not be topped today.
The Yankees counter with Phil Hughes, who is 7-5 with a 4.50ERA. Now his recent starts have seen him do even better than Hanson. Hughes has won all 3 starts this month, compiling a 1.69ERA that is screaming good recent form. In fact, if you look at his last 7 starts he has given up more than 2 earned runs only once. Hughes has only faced the Braves once, out of the bullpen, giving up no runs.
The Yankees look the right bet if you're going for a side, but Hanson has been very good recently and it leaves Atlanta with a chance, which gives me enough doubt to avoid that selection.
BETTING VERDICT
Let's go with the Under here. It should be a low scoring pitchers duel and the price smacks of value, at least to me.
