So Boise State recovered from their opening day loss to finish 10-2 for the regular season, and their reward is a trip to Las Vegas, for the 3rd consecutive year! The Broncos will play the 7-5 Washington Huskies, and I have Boise State as likely winners, and fancy them to cover the 5.5 point spread too.
This is 2nd straight year Boise State will face a Pac-12 opponent in this Bowl game, and the 11th straight year they are playing a Bowl game. Their coach has the best winning record of any active coach, going 83-8 now, which is a 91% record!
The Washington Huskies almost didn't make it here, suffering 5 losses, including a tough one in the final game of the season to Washington State, going down 31-28 in OT.
If you're thinking Washington can hang here based on the way they hung with RG3 and Baylor last year in that high scoring match, think again. Boise know how to play defence, and this is their 3rd year playing in this bowl game, making it very much their gaff.
Last year Boise stomped on Pac 12 representative Arizona State 56-24 and the year before that dismantled Utah 26-3. Washington showed serious flaws on defence in the way they allowed Washington State to come back and win in OT, and I don't think the team can come here and do a job. At home they've been good. On the road, not so much.
Boise might not put up the kind of scores they did when Moore was QB, but Southwick has settled in and improved steadily through the season. But, the defence, which ranks 9th in yards allowed and 6th in points allowed, will be the difference here, and behind that I predict about a 7-10 point win for Boise, enough to cover the number.
BETTING VERDICT
I'll go with the Boise State Broncos to win and cover.
