A Sports Betting Pick by Lamps
Football : England : Premier League
Saturday 23rd February - Kickoff 3:00pm
Reading
Reading lost on Monday night at United (2-1) in their 5th Round FA Cup tie. On Saturday their attention turns back to the league with the Royals a point off safety.
Reading lost at Stoke last time out to end their 4 game unbeaten run. In that run they won 3 of 4, drawing the other but to lose back to back games (inc the FA Cup game) may affect their confidence ahead of this game.
At home it's 5 games unbeaten with 3 wins. If Reading want to avoid the drop they need to keep this up until May and against a relegation candidate in Wigan it's an even bigger game for them.
The last 3 home games have all been over 2.5 and all have seen both sides scoring. The Royals have scored in 7 of their last 8 at home and at least twice in the last 3. 2 clean sheets in 5 is decent but none in the last 3 at home is a negative.
Wigan Athletic
Wigan Athletic won 1-4 at Huddersfield on Sunday to progress into the 6th round of the FA Cup. League wise they sit in 19th place and a win on Saturday puts them level with 17th placed Villa.
Martinez's side haven't won in 6 games splitting them with 3 draws/3 losses. Going further back 1 win in 13 is really bad as Wigan need to repeat their form of this time last year to likely stay in the division.
Away from home the loss at Chelsea (4-1) was their first in 4 although they only won once over this period. Wigan were on a run of 7 losses in 8 so they have certainly turned things around and won't fear the Royals in this one.
In 5 of the last 6 both sides have scored when Wigan are on the road. 1 clean sheet in 8 makes it hard for them to win games but they have scored in 6 straight now. Wigan has scored and conceded 7 over the last 4 away games so we should see some goals on Saturday.
Betting Verdict
Reading are odds against favourites in this one but I can't pick a winner as both sides are capable of winning the game.
Reading haven't lost in 5 home games so they will fancy this but Wigan have lost just once in the last 4 away. A draw could be a runner as it ticks over both sides but I will stick my neck out and say there will be a winner.
Both sides score and concede in their home/away splits with overs very favourable. This is where my money is going as I expect both to score for sure and given the stats a 3rd should follow. In their meeting earlier this season we saw a 3-2 Wigan win and it wouldn't shock if that's how it ends but the other way round on Saturday.
Good Luck
