Analysis:Parma who are battling against relegation will not have it easy as they welcome a Lazio side that have been beaten just once in their last five games coming into this match. Parma are tied on 29 points with a number of clubs and are once again as last season battling against relegation.
As for Lazio, they are coming good at the right time though it is difficult for them to get into Europe now. In their last five games they were only beaten by Fiorentina on Easter weekend and that too when they were reduced to 10 players. Lazio are now playing for their pride and could finish in eight spot come end season. They are also in the Coppa Italia as they have to play against Inter Milan so that is still something to look forward this season as a ticket to Europe.
Lazio will keep the attacking trio of Rolando Bianchi, Goran Pandev and Tommaso Rocchi in this match but will make changes in other departments. Ousmane Dabo is suspended for this match so Massimo Mutarelli will come back into the side after serving his suspension. Delio Rossi will make changes in defence as Valon Behrami and Daniel Radu will make way for the likes of Lorenzo Di Silvestri and Aleksandar Kolarov.
As for Parma, coach Hector Cuper after his impressive start, he was finally beaten by a Siena side two weeks ago. They had more rest than the other teams after their match with Juventus was called off due to a death of a fan last Sunday. Under Hector Cuper, Parma has managed four points from their three matches played and he is still optimistic that he can lead them to safety.
Parma will however be without the likes of Cristiano Lucarelli as he is suspended for this tie after picking up his fourth booking since joining the club in the January transfer window. His replacement will be youngster McDonald Mariga who is back after serving his suspension. Andrea Gasbarroni will provide support to striker Igor Budan who will operate as a lone striker upfront. Cuper will also hope the likes of Reginaldo can play a vital role on the left flank as well as Luca Cigarini to penetrate Lazio’s defence.
However Parma doesn’t fare well in past meetings between these two teams. They are without a win since October 2004 and last season they were taught a lesson in football by Lazio as they were humiliated 1-3 at home by the side from Rome. Lazio have won four of the last six clashes, including the meeting earlier this term when Fabio Firmani scored a last minute winner.
Do watch out for Lazio’s Tommaso Rocchi as he has a knack of scoring goals and has scored in three of the last five meetings between the sides.
