2008-04-20 - A.C Milan vs Reggina
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:A.C Milan cannot afford to slip up anymore if they are to play in the Champions League next season. After Fiorentina's win yesterday, this becomes a must win game for them at all cost. Carlo Ancelotti's time is running out after last weeken's 3-2 defeat to third place Juventus which means they need to start winning all their matches and hope teams above them slip up.
As it is now they are seven points away from Fiorentina after Viola beat Sampdoria last night. A win here would put them back to four points behind. A defeat here and it would be the end of their Champions League hopes for sure.
Milan needs to finish the season strongly if they are to lure Brazilian Ronaldinho to their side in the summer as well. Their record at home is poor with just five wins this season, so it is important they get a win and a big one too to restore their fans faith in them.
As for Reggina, they stunned Sampdoria 1-0 in their last match so they will be gunning for another big scalp here. Franco Brienza who arrived in January is playing well and has promised to give his best to bring them out of relegation.
But he fact remains that Reggina are currently in 18th spot and knows it will never be easy travelling to face A.C Milan at the San Siro. The visitors have yet to win away from home and have scored just 8 times on their travels this season! In their last six games they have scored just one goal so they will hope to pack their defence and hope that Milan strikers have an off day.
Reggina still has to face the likes of Parma, Catania, Empoli and Catania teams which are all also battling against relegation. So if they suffer a defeat here today, they can still look towards winning the battle against teams that are in their same shoes - battling against relegation.
The last time they met Milan won by a slim 1-0 courtesy of Alberto Gilardino strike. Reggina beat Milan 2-0 last year and 2-1 in May 2004 but to come away with maximum points from the San Siro is a tall order indeed. For the record, there has been no draw in the last nine editions of this fixture.
Milan will not have the services of Daniele Bonera who is suspended for two matches following his horrific tackle on Momo Sissoko. Midfielder Massimo Ambrosini is also suspended here. Alexandre Pato is also out of this match for Milan. Pippo Inzaghi will start as a lone striker Alberto Paloschi and Gilardino being on the bench. Marek Jankulovski and Emerson are also out of this match.
For Reggina, they are missing Paraguayan midfielder Jose Montiel through injury and Emmanuel Cascione who is suspended.
