Hi and welcome to THE BODOG BARK. This page is an extract of the game previews, news and views onsite at Bodog Sports and is a regular contribution to GoonersGuide.com. Bodog has long been one of North America's favourite online sportsbooks and they're now making solid inroads into the UK/European football betting scene.
Bodog is all about digital entertainment, more so than most classical sportsbooks (they've got an online casino, poker room, celebrity magazine style content plus Mixed Martial Arts and other fairly "cool stuff"). Bodog is a great betting option offering some very competitive odds on a wide range of markets.

Sports Betting: This Week's Games To Bet On
Blake Griffin dunked over a car, Kobe Bryant won another All-Star MVP award. Just a typical weekend in Los Angeles. The eyes of the basketball betting world now turn to the East Coast, where one of the best scorers in the NBA could be making a very big splash. Now that deals are apparently negotiated out in the open through media leaks (we can neither confirm nor deny that), it’s well worth it for handicappers to keep an eye on the rumor mills leading up to Thursday’s NBA trading deadline. Meanwhile, here’s the best of what’s on tap this week in sports betting. All times are Eastern, and Bodog Sports is your source for fresh odds and immaculate customer service.
1. NBA: New York at Miami (Sunday, 8:00 p.m.)
This is a high-profile matchup as it is, but it could get even higher if Carmelo Anthony (25.2 points per game) is traded to the Big Apple. The Knicks (28-26 SU, 33-19-2 ATS) have had a lousy month from a basketball perspective, going 6-5 SU (and 7-4 ATS) to follow up a six-game losing streak. The home fans are getting restless. However, New York might not improve that much after the trade, depending on what other players are moved. Miami (41-15 SU, 28-27-1 ATS) went into the All-Star break on a nice 10-1 SU run at 7-4 ATS. Mike Miller should be back this week after tests revealed he was concussion-free, but Dwyane Wade is a question mark after spraining his ankle at the All-Star Game.

2. NCAAB: Temple at Duke (Wednesday, 7:00 p.m.)
The Blue Devils (25-2 SU, 15-11 ATS) managed to avoid the upset bug that bit college basketball over the weekend, beating Georgia Tech 79-57 as 18.5-point home faves. Duke improved to 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS since losing at St. John’s (+8) on January 30. Next up is a non-conference matchup against the Temple Owls (21-5 SU, 15-11 ATS) of the Atlantic 10. Temple has become the class of the A-10 since hiring former Penn coach Fran Dunphy in 2006. His Owls are riding an eight-game winning streak at 4-4 ATS; on the season, they’re 7-3 ATS on the road.

3. NBA: Boston at Denver (Thursday, 10:30 p.m.)
Again, if the Nuggets (32-25 SU, 24-30-3 ATS) get a decent enough package of players back from the Knicks, they might have a lot more value against the NBA betting lines. Rumors at press time had Denver looking to acquire promising youngsters Landry Fields and Timofey Mozgov. But depending on the timing of the deal, the Nuggets could end up shorthanded when they host the Celtics (40-14 SU, 26-26-2 ATS). Boston is only 3-3 SU and ATS in its last six games, and Shaquille O’Neal (heel) reportedly still isn’t healthy enough to play.

Soccer Betting: More UEFA Champions League, Round Of 16
We expected fierce action during the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16. And action is what we got. All four of last week’s games went down to the wire, with a pair of English Premiership clubs pulling off the upset: Tottenham Hotspur (+425 away) shut down AC Milan 1-0, and Arsenal (+300 at home) stunned Barcelona 2-1. Will Britannia rule the soccer odds again this week?
Tuesday, February 22
Chelsea at Copenhagen
It’s been a strange and sudden fall from grace for the Blues. They finished first in the Premier League last year and won the FA Cup, then Chelsea started 2011 strong with five straight victories, outscoring the opposition 21-1. But everything started going wrong in mid-November with a 3-0 loss to visiting Sunderland. The Blues have just four wins since then, along with three losses and five draws, and are now in fifth place on the EPL table. They were also eliminated from the FA Cup on Saturday by Everton.
Copenhagen (or FC København in Danish) are still +475 home dogs on the soccer betting lines. They play in the Danish League, which as of last Thursday sat No. 12 on the UEFA country rankings, behind Greece and ahead of Belgium. It’s not much of a league compared to the EPL, but Copenhagen are the defending champions and are undefeated this year with 16 wins and three draws. They played Barcelona to a 1-1 draw here at Parken Stadion in November. Another draw this week would pay out at +260. The Blues are –165 favorites. All four of this week’s matchups start at 2:45 p.m. Eastern.
Real Madrid at Lyon
The Spanish Primera Division has its own Big Two, with Real Madrid (19 wins, two losses, three draws) holding tight to first-place Barcelona in the standings. Perhaps Chelsea’s problems can be traced back to losing manager Jose Mourinho back in 2007. Mourinho (aka “The Special One”) went to Inter and won the Champions League last year before making the switch to Real Madrid; he also won with FC Porto back in 2004. Having Cristiano Ronaldo (24 goals in 23 games) on his team makes Mourinho look that much better.
Lyon (aka Olympique Lyonnais) won France’s Ligue 1 seven straight years starting in 2001, but the league has seen increased parity over the past couple of seasons, and Lyon is now third on the table with 11 wins, five losses and eight draws. France is only fifth in the UEFA rankings; the level of soccer there is definitely a step below second-place Spain. A win at home would pay Lyon supporters +315, with Real at –115 and the draw at +240.
Wednesday, February 23
Manchester United at Marseille
United (16 wins, one loss, nine draws) aren’t in as dire straits as Chelsea, but their undefeated season went down the drain on February 5 with a 2-1 away loss to the lowly Wolverhampton Wanderers. Then a pared-down squad had to scuffle for a 1-0 win Saturday at Old Trafford over Blue Square representative Crawley Town. Michael Owen (groin) is expected to rejoin the team this week.
Marseille (11 wins, four losses, nine draws in Ligue 1) are the defending champions of France, and the only team from that country ever to win the Champions League – in 1993, the year before they were relegated because of a match-fixing scandal. They are now coached by their former captain from the good old days, Didier Deschamps. They’re respected enough to be priced at +250 at home with United at +110 and the draw a relatively slim +225.
Bayern Munich at Inter
When you think Bundesliga, you probably think Bayern Munich, the defending champions and winners of eight league titles since 1998. They have some catching up to do this year at 12-6-5, 13 points behind Dortmund for first place. But the return of midfielder/winger Arjen Robben (16 goals in 18 league matches last year) from a lingering hamstring injury gives Bayern fans hope. Their team has four wins and a draw in league action with Robben on the pitch.
Inter (15 wins, six losses and five draws) are second to AC Milan in Serie A this year, but only by two points, and they have former Milan star Leonardo as their new manager after firing Rafa Benitez in December. Inter are 10-2-1 overall since making the switch; the players are very happy with Leonardo, comparing his style to Mourinho’s. A win for the Nerazurri on Wednesday would pay out at +110, with Bayern at +250 and the draw pegged at +225.

4. NHL: N.Y. Rangers at Washington (Friday, 7:00 p.m.)
Maybe Carmelo can suit up for the Rangers, too. They’ve lost eight of their last 10 games (one by shootout) to fall to seventh place in the Eastern Conference at 31-26-4 (31-30 ATS, –6.65 units). And there’s a spot available for Anthony; Marian Gaborik (17 goals in 46 games) is back on the shelf after suffering a concussion in Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Philadelphia (–115 away). The Capitals (31-19-10 SU, 22-38 ATS, –6.02 units) are fifth in the East and are on the fritz again at 4-5-2 over the past month.

5. MMA: Jon Fitch vs. BJ Penn (PPV Starts Saturday, 10:00 p.m.)
The UFC 127 card might not have any title fights, but fans in Australia still snapped up all the tickets in a matter of moments, anticipating what should be a great welterweight fight between Penn (16-7-1 lifetime) and Fitch (23-3, 1 NC) in Sydney. This will be a bit of a stretch for Penn; the former Lightweight champion is trying his hand again at 170 pounds, but is only 2-3 in the Octagon at that weight. Fitch is ranked second among the welterweights by Sherdog, behind only the champion Georges St-Pierre, who holds victories over both Fitch and Penn (twice).
