Bears sign TE Angulo, WR Peterman 02/22 18:17:49 ET
Lake Forest, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Bears signed tight end Richard Angulo and wide receiver Eric Peterman to one-year contracts on Monday.
Angulo last played in the NFL in 2008 with Jacksonville. Over his four-year career, the 29-year-old Western New Mexico product has caught 17 passes for 155 yards with one touchdown.Peterman ended the 2009 season on Chicago's practice squad

Pats slap franchise tag on Wilfork 02/22 13:59:27 ET
Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Patriots have placed the franchise designation on nose tackle Vince Wilfork.
Unless the Patriots and Wilfork work out a long-term contract, the two-time Pro Bowl star will make just over $7 million next season under the franchise tag agreement, which is the average of the five highest-paid players at the position from 2009. "A long-term agreement with Vince Wilfork has been the team's top contractual priority for some time," the Patriots said in a statement. "Unfortunately, despite numerous conversations and proposals, the goal has not yet been realized. Vince is a tremendous player for our team and remains a significant part of our future plans.It is because of Vince's importance to this organization that we have assigned the franchise designation as we continue to work toward a long-term agreement. We are hopeful that Vince will remain a Patriot for many years to come."
Wilfork has played in 90 regular-season games for the Patriots, including 80 as a starter, since the club selected him with the 21st overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft.He has recorded 449 tackles, including 257 solo, with 7 1/2 sacks in his career.The 28-year-old University of Miami product was elected to the Pro Bowl this past season after leading New England defensive linemen in tackles with 65. Jaguars re-sign TE Wilford 02/22 19:09:21 ET
Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed veteran tight end Ernest Wilford on Monday.
Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Wilford caught 11 passes for 123 yards and one touchdown in 15 games last season for Jacksonville. A fourth-round pick of the Jaguars in 2004, Wilford has spent five of his first six years in the NFL with Jacksonville. The Virginia Tech product signed with the Miami Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent in 2008 before being waived on February 24 of last year. He then rejoined the Jaguars prior to the 2009 season.In 85 career games (44 starts), Wilford has hauled in 155 passes for 2,142 yards and 15 touchdowns. He ranks second in Jaguars history with a 14.1-yard average per reception. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder also leads all current Jacksonville players in receiving yards (2,117).

Oregon LB Alonso suspended for 2010 season 02/22 16:05:07 ET
Eugene, OR (Sports Network) - The University of Oregon has suspended linebacker Kiko Alonso for the 2010 season. The Oregonian reports the sophomore was cited early Saturday morning for DUI and other charges. The report said Oregon coach Chip Kelly announced the decision Monday but said details are still being discussed. Alonso was redshirted in 2008 and appeared in 11 games in 2009, racking up 15 tackles, one tackle for loss and a forced fumble.
Ole Miss football player dies after workout 02/19 19:32:18 ET
Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - Bennie F. Abram, a junior football player for Ole Miss, died Friday after collapsing during the first day of the team's routine conditioning program.
He was 20 years old.Abram started experiencing difficulty shortly after the workout began early in the morning, and trainers began administering aid and called 911. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford and passed away several hours later. "Bennie was a fine young man and a hard worker. He was a great person to be around and a well-mannered young man. His loss is so tragic. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and all who knew Bennie," Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt said.Abram, originally from Southaven, Mississippi, was a non-scholarship athlete who transferred to Ole Miss from Itawamba Community College last fall.

Blatche, Thornton help Wizards beat Bulls 02/22 22:00:45 ET
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Andray Blatche poured in 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, as the Washington Wizards fended off the Chicago Bulls, 101-95, at the Verizon Center.
Al Thornton added 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Wizards, who have won three of four. Randy Foye tallied 16 points and nine assists for Washington, which started a three-game homestand on Monday.
The news was not all good for the Wizards, who lost forward Josh Howard early in the first quarter to a left knee sprain. Washington acquired Howard from Dallas last week in a seven-player deal that sent forward Caron Butler to the Mavericks.
Derrick Rose finished with 22 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Bulls, who had a four-game win streak come to an end. Flip Murray donated 16 points off the bench for Chicago, which got 11 points and six boards from Luol Deng.Ahead 81-76 two minutes into the fourth, Washington put together a 12-4 flurry to create some breathing room.
Blatche ended the spurt with a pair of free throws to make it a 93-80 game with less than 5 1/2 minutes to play. Chicago responded with a 15-3 burst to cut the gap to one. Rose tallied nine points during the run, which Murray capped with a three-pointer to make it 96-95 with under two minutes to go. Thornton stopped the bleeding with a fadeaway jumper in the lane to give the Wizards a three-point edge. At the opposite end of the floor, Deng missed a jumper. Foye then made an 18-foot jumper with 1:01 remaining, extending Washington's margin to 100-95.
There was 26.4 seconds left on the clock following a missed Brad Miller trey and a shot clock violation on the Wizards. Murray and Rose each missed shots from beyond the arc, and James Singleton made 1-of-2 from the foul line to seal the victory.The Bulls, who held a 26-25 edge after 12 minutes, trailed 31-30 early in the second. An ensuing 20-7 run by Chicago, though, put them in front by 12. Hakim Warrick's layup made it 50-38 with 4 1/2 minutes left. The score was 56-46 at the break.The Wizards started the third on a 22-6 burst to take the lead. Thornton scored seven points during the run, including a three-pointer to put Washington in front 68-62 with three minutes remaining. The Wizards held a 77-72 edge after three periods.
