After Arsenal's surprise win 2-0 over Bayern Munich the Gunners will be hard pressed to do the double over the German Champion.
A defeat for Arsenal here on Wednesday and a win for Olympiakos over bottom side Dinamo Zagreb would leave the Gunners still in big problems. Two weeks ago Arsenal survived after their defence did really well. When they make the trip to Germany this coming Wednesday they will be under much pressure.
The good news for Arsenal going into this match is that they have lost just one of their last seven games in the competition against German opponents away from home. They have also earned a win and a draw from their last two visits to Bayern Munich. Now they will be expecting the Germans to come back at them after they won 2-0 in north London two weeks ago.
Arsenal’s success in that match came after their backline played so well led by former Chelsea keeper Petr Cech. Now they will come under heavy firing from Bayern Munich, make no mistake about that. The players to watvch for Arsenal will be Olivier Giroud as well as Mesut Ozil, who has two Champions League goals against Bayern Munich.
Arsenal suffered a defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in their only other away match this season. And now a second defeat away from the Emirates will put them back in danger of not qualifying from the group. However, including play-offs, Arsene Wenger has won seven and lost three of his last 12 UEFA Champions League away games.
The last time Arsenal went to Munich they came away with a 1-1 draw in the 2013/14 season and the season before that they went there and picked up a 2-0 win.The 1-0 loss they suffered in Germany last season at Borussia Dortmund was their first loss in seven visits to Germany (winning three of those seven) so they have a decent record there. Overall, Arsenal have an away record of W5 D5 L6 at German clubs.
Meanwhile, it has to be said that Bayern Munich do have a good record against English clubs. They have a W12 D6 L3 record on home turf in Europe against English opposition and they have won their two home fixtures as well against Premier League clubs. That was after failing to win any of the previous four games.
Despite failing to score at the Emirates two weeks ago, Bayern Munich are still full of goals. In their last four home matches in the competition they have averaged 5.25 goals per game and last season they hit 22 goals on home soil during their campaign. Before their trip to Arsenal, Bayern had scored eight unanswered goals in this season’s competition.
It should be noted that the Bundesliga Champions have won their last seven Champions League matches at home, earning clean sheets in five of those. They have also won in 16 of their last 17 home games in the group stage. The players to watch will be Robert Lewandowski as well as Thomas Muller.
Everyone is expecting Bayern Munich to win this, in fact everyone is expecting this match to have a lot of goals and to go Over 3 goals. I will go for this match to go Under 3 goals here and for Arsenal not to get beaten by more then 2 goals.
