This is a club that are not only used to playing in the League Cup Group Stage, but one that has regularly made the right decisions in progressing through what can be an awkward opening to the season.
After the draw in Clyde, Motherwell were able to pick up the bonus points with the Penalty Shoot Out win and they have made sure that home form has remained solid in helping them into the League Cup Second Round. Later in the Group, Motherwell will have that advantage against their main rivals for top spot, Morton, but that match will only matter if they can secure all three points at Fir Park on Tuesday.
This is the third year in a row that Motherwell have begun their campaign in the League Cup Group Stage and they have become a mid-table Scottish Premiership team. The aim for this season has to be finishing in the top half and perhaps pushing for a return to European Football, but before all that, Motherwell will want to put some early momentum behind their performances.
Motherwell did end the last season with some decent performances at Fir Park and they will feel that there is a real gap in quality level when hosting Peterhead.
That does not mean they can overlook this opponent, even if Peterhead were beaten 2-4 at home by Morton this past weekend.
Being responsible should mean Motherwell have the advantages, especially when you consider the results Peterhead have had away from home in the League Cup over the last couple of years. Heavy defeats when visiting higher Ranked League sides have been common for Peterhead to absorb, while they were promoted into League One as League Two Champions at the end of the 2025 season.
Solid form at League Two level will have given Peterhead some belief, but the defeat on Saturday underlines the gap that exists the further up the League pyramid they look.
There have been no recent meetings between these clubs with the last coming back in January 1951 in the Scottish FA Cup.
Prediction
The early League Cup Group Stage results can be inconsistent with the tournament effectively beginning in place of a pre-season.
After the 2-2 draw at Clyde, Motherwell will be looking for better when hosting for the first time in the 2025/26 season.
They should be able to do that against a Peterhead team that have been promoted to League One, but who were beaten 2-4 at home by Morton this past weekend. Peterhead have really had a tough time when visiting higher Ranked teams in the League Cup over the last couple of seasons and Motherwell should be able to secure a win by at least two goals.
