As soon as the draw was made for the Euro 2024 Qualifying Groups, the Republic of Ireland would have appreciated the difficulty they were going to have in finishing in the top two in this section. France and Netherlands looked the best teams in the Group and the Irish defeat to the latter last month has effectively ended any hopes of finishing in the top two.

They are 4th in this Group and Republic of Ireland are 6 points behind the Netherlands in 2nd place and with just 9 points available from the remaining three Qualifiers. The side will have a chance to redeem themselves for the home loss to Holland when travelling to face them next month, but Ireland may only be playing spoilers if they are not able to win this fixture on Friday.

A Play Off place is already secured for Greece in League C of the brackets, but there is still a hope that the team can break the expected dominance of France and Netherlands in this section. They will be hosting both of those nations before the end of this Qualifying stage, but Greece have to try and keep the pressure on by following those two nations in winning in Dublin.

With France and Netherlands facing each other, 3rd placed Greece are only behind Holland on the head to head and so there is still an opportunity to finish above them in this section. 7 points from the last three games might be good enough to do that, but overlooking Ireland could be a mistake ahead of the big game coming up against Netherlands.

Prediction

France and Netherlands were not expected to have too many problems finishing in the top two in this Group and both look on course to do that.

However, Greece are giving Holland a run for their money and could have some real momentum if they are able to win here on Friday.

With the Netherlands hosting France, a Greece win might see them ahead of the former before hosting them next Monday and with an opportunity to perhaps move to the edge of Qualifying for Euro 2024.

However, winning in Dublin will not be easy having seen Republic of Ireland push both France and Netherlands in narrow losses here. Winning games has been a problem for Ireland though and it may mean they have to settle for being a spoiler to Greece's hopes of finishing between France and Holland.
