Having lost their last two matches on the trot in Serie A, Sunday night’s hosts, Cagliari, will be eager to stop the rot when they return to their Unipol Domus ground for this upcoming encounter against relegation-threatened Venezia especially as the hosts are also not yet mathematically safe from possible relegation themselves.

Cagliari currently occupy 14th place in the Serie A standings with a five-point cushion above third from bottom club Lecce but with two games remaining of the season, Cagliari know they must produce a result of some sort in one of the two matches.

League wins have been hard to come by for Cagliari who have managed to capture just two victories within their last 12 games overall in the domestic top flight, courtesy of wins against Monza and Verona, but seven defeats within this period have ensured a nervy finish to the campaign for Davide Nicola’s side.

Venezia eased their relegation worries in Serie A last week with a welcome 2-1 home win against Fiorentina which also helped lift the visitors up into 17th place in the table and a point above the relegation zone.

However, Venezia have experienced an even leaner period of results than their upcoming hosts in the Italian top flight as Eusebio Di Francesco’s side have collected just two wins from their previous 19 games overall, those coming in the shape of victories against Monza and Fiorentina respectively.

Both wins though were registered on home soil at their Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo while 10 stalemates along with being dealt seven defeats within these previous 19 games have placed Venezia in a precarious position.

Perhaps most telling of all though is the fact that Venezia still remain the only side in Serie A yet to register an away win so far in this season’s campaign having drawn nine and losing nine.
