Wales

The appointment of Craig Bellamy may have been something of a surprise to many, but he has already shown why the Welsh FA were keen to bring him in. Over recent years, expectations have been raised by performances of the national team and Bellamy will know that his team have a big obstacle to overcome if they are going to be playing in consecutive World Cup Finals having missed out at Euro 2024 last year.

The very late goal earned Wales a draw at North Macedonia on Match Day 2 and that means 4 points have been placed on the board in this Qualifying Group. The biggest threat is going to be Belgium, but Wales will be targeting a top two finish at the very least to earn a Play Off spot and they will be looking for some momentum to take into the game in Brussels coming up next week.

Wales not only earned a point with that late goal in North Macedonia, but they have extended their unbeaten run to 8 games in all competitions under the guidance of Craig Bellamy. That run includes earning Promotion to League A of the Nations League, and Wales will be targeting a fourth home win in a row.

Liechtenstein

The whole narrative around the formation of the Nations League was to ensure a greater development of all within a Confederation by playing against opponents of a similar level over the course of a season. It has certainly helped some, but Liechtenstein finished bottom of a League D Group and that underlines how far they are from being competitive.

This gap has been underlined when Liechtenstein have been involved in the UEFA Qualifiers and the team have actually lost 37 of 40 Qualifiers played, including both in this 2026 World Cup Qualifying section. Both defeats in March were in home games against North Macedonia and Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein are destined for another bottom spot finish.

Liechtenstein did earn draws with Gibraltar in both Nations League ties played against them, but they have lost 4 in a row ahead of this latest World Cup Qualifier. The side have lost 7 away Qualifiers in succession and conceded at least four goals in 4 of those matches.

Head to Head

Wales have won all 3 previous matches against Liechtenstein, including both in the 2010 World Cup Qualifying Group when they last met.

Prediction

This is a Qualifier that Wales will be expected to win and win well ahead of the big game in Belgium and they should have enough in the final third to secure a relatively comfortable success.

Goal difference could be important in the final shake up and Craig Bellamy will be wanting his team to get forward and express themselves.

Wales have scored seven goals in the last 2 home matches played and they are facing a Liechtenstein team that have become accustomed to suffering heavy away losses in recent seasons.

After struggling in League D and and losing both home World Cup Qualifiers played, Liechtenstein's maim ambition may be to contain the final damage.

However, an early goal conceded may allow Wales to flourish and the home team have shown they have the firepower to secure a win wide enough to cover the Asian line set.
