Feyenoord will be hoping to exploit use the benefit of home advantage first in this upcoming two-legged Champions League qualifier against Turkish visitors Fenerbahçe as the Dutch hosts will begin their season at De Kuip on Wednesday night.

Feyenoord did not enjoy the most successful of pre-seasons recently as Robin van Persie’s side could only muster a single win in their five warm-up games, that being a 4-1 win away from home at fellow Dutch outfit Cambuur.

However, subsequent losses at the hands of Gent, Nice and Liefering respectively will have no doubt resulted in extra work on the training pitch for the Feyenoord personnel as they prepare to produce a much better version of themselves in this 1st leg tie.

Feyenoord managed to reach the round of last 16 in last season’s Champions League campaign before falling foul of the eventual losing finalists, Inter Milan, but the Dutch side had previously picked up notable wins against Bayern Munich and AC Milan respectively.

Fenerbahçe had to make do with the runners-up spot in last season’s Turkish Super Lig campaign after finishing a significant 11 points behind the title-winners, Galatasaray, at the conclusion of last term.

The Turkish visitors have produced a much more encouraging sequence of results in their respective pre-season period, picking up four wins in the five warm-up matches that they’ve played.

Wins against Portuguese opposition in the form of Portimonense and Leiria along with victories gained over Al Ittihad and Lazio outweighed their single loss at the hands of Benfica.

However, Fenerbahce have failed to progress past the 3rd qualifying round of this competition since the 2008/09 season.

The Betting Verdict

Feyenoord slipped to just three defeats at home throughout last season’s domestic campaign and the Dutch hosts should at least avoid defeat in this 1st leg tie as well.
