Football: English Premier League
Saturday 20th September 2025 - Kick Off 8pm
This game is live on TV
Fulham
There really wasn't much between Fulham and Leeds United at Craven Cottage last Saturday, but an inexplicable own goal in injury time helped Marco Silva's men earn all three points. They will be back at home this weekend in front of the television cameras in another West London derby and Silva and the fans will be hoping his team can build on those three points earned last time out.
Some fans believe that expectations in the boardroom are nothing more than seeing Fulham maintain their top flight status, but Marco Silva has openly spoken about challenging for European Football. His team moved back up to 11th in the Premier League table after the results last weekend, while Fulham improved the record at Craven Cottage to 1-1-0.
Fulham have opened the season with a single defeat in 5 games played in all competitions, while the victory over Leeds United makes it 2 in a row at Craven Cottage since the 1-1 draw with Manchester United. The side had lost their last 3 home Premier League games last season as the European hopes faded, and that makes the opening results at Craven Cottage feel important.
The squad looks to have come out of the victory over Leeds United without any new injury concerns.
Brentford
Keith Andrews had a beaming smile on his face as Brentford found a way through to the League Cup Fourth Round and it feel like his team have some momentum out of the September international break. Two positive performances/results against Chelsea and Aston Villa will offer the players plenty of encouragement ahead of another West London derby.
A strong start had to be made just to keep the wolves from the door after the host of changes at Brentford over the summer and it is clear the players are behind the inexperienced manager. The Bees earned a draw with Chelsea last weekend to move into 12th place in the Premier League table and with 4 points on the board. However, Brentford have a 0-0-2 away record where they have scored 2 goals and conceded 5.
Brentford did win a League Cup tie at Bournemouth last month, but they failed to hold onto a lead at Sunderland a few days later and suffered a second away League defeat in a row. Draws with Chelsea and Aston Villa in games in which Brentford trailed will have given them some confidence since the defeat in the North East in the last match played in August.
The manager did make some rotations to his starting eleven for the League Cup win over Aston Villa on Tuesday and the Brentford squad looks pretty strong ahead of this short trip to Craven Cottage.
Head to Head
These two rivals played out two very entertaining and dramatic Premier League games last season.
A back and forth game at the Gtech Community Stadium eventually ended 2-3 in favour of Fulham, while earlier in the season they scored twice in injury time at Craven Cottage to beat Brentford 2-1.
Fulham have won 2 of the last 3 when hosting Brentford, although the exception was a 0-3 win for The Bees.
Prediction
If the two West London derby games between Fulham and Brentford last season are anything to go by, neutrals tuning into this 8pm Saturday evening kick off could be in for a treat.
Drama was attached to both League fixtures last season and in recent years there have tended to be plenty of goals when Fulham have hosted Brentford.
There is a real rivalry between the fans, perhaps even more than attached to games against Chelsea, and bragging rights will be welcomed at the end of the fixture.
Both Fulham and Brentford have made decent enough starts to the new season, but Marco Silva and Keith Andrews will both believe there is still more to come from the players.
Brentford will have earned some confidence from the performances in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea last weekend and the eventual Penalty Shoot Out win over Aston Villa in the League Cup, but Keith Andrews is still searching for a way to set them up away from home.
Both of those fixtures in the League have ended in defeat at Nottingham Forest and Sunderland, while Bournemouth may feel a touch unfortunate to have lost the home League Cup tie against this team.
However, they are going to be up against a Fulham team that needed a very fortunate goal to beat Leeds United last weekend and who have just not been firing in the final third. One goal was enough to win that game deep into injury time, but 3 goals in 4 Premier League games is not what the manager nor the supporters expect.
Marco Silva may feel this Brentford team will offer up chances, but Fulham have yet to really get going and new arrivals will take some time bedding in. They did play pretty well when hosting Manchester United and Fulham will still feel the officials cost them at Chelsea, and something similar to those levels may just give them the slightest of edges in this derby game.
It is another Premier League game where the first goal feels absolutely vital, but Fulham may have the confidence to get that considering they did beat Brentford in both top flight games last season. It was Brentford who scored first here at Craven Cottage, but they did invest a fair bit into the League Cup success against Aston Villa and a slightly fresher host may just be worthy of backing, albeit on the handicap markets that return half the stake in the event of a draw.
