Preview

The wins have been piling up over the last several weeks and six victories in a row has proved too much for the Houston Astros to handle. While the Seattle Mariners (89-69) have been surging, the Houston Astros have struggled to turn the momentum and it all means the Mariners have secured the American League West Divisional crown.

With four games left, the Mariners have a healthy lead over the Cleveland Guardians, the surprising new leaders in the American League Central, and that should place Seattle in a strong position to secure a Bye into the Divisional Round of the post-season. There is also the chance that Seattle could actually finish with the Number 1 Seed, although that may not be something they chase to the detriment of the players that need to be healthy for the next month.

Taking that into consideration, the Mariners have scrapped Bryan Woo's planned appearance on the mound as they look for their top pitcher to get back up to full health. He had issues that forced him to withdraw during his last start so Seattle are not willing to take any chances with Woo, even if they have not ruled him out from pitching in the final regular season series to be played this weekend.

A bullpen approach will be taken to the final game of this series with the Colorado Rockies (43-115) who have long locked down the worst record in the Major League. With a starter pitching into the 8th Inning, Seattle should have plenty of arms ready to go during this final game of the series.

The only positive for Colorado fans is that their team are not going to reach the lows of the Chicago White Sox of 2024, who lost 121 games, but it has been a tough season.

They will hand the ball to Bradley Blalock who has a 2-5 record and a 9.16 ERA in thirteen appearances made this season. Eleven of those have been in starts, which is the most Blalock has made in a single season in the Major League, but the ERA has been really disappointing.

Bradley Blalock held the Cleveland Guardians scoreless in 6 Innings pitched at the end of July, but did not factor in the decision, and things have really been a struggle since then. He has a 1-3 record from the next five starts, although Bradley Blalock has been operating with an awful 12.27 ERA and allowed at least five runs in all of those outings.

The sophomore pitcher is facing the Seattle Mariners for the first time.

Colorado have lost six of the last seven games played against Seattle.

Prediction

A bullpen game can be harder to predict, especially when it is a decision made on short notice, but the Seattle Mariners are playing so well right not that they can maintain momentum.

It feels like a tall task for Bradley Blalock of the Colorado Rockies to keep the struggling road team in the contest and the Mariners may just batter the starter into submission.
