Football: English Premier League
Saturday 25th October 2025 - Kick Off 3pm
Newcastle United
Two seasons ago, the old format of the Champions League Group Stage would always mean Newcastle United would be placed in a tough section having missed out on European Football for years and being a lower Seed. That is less of an issue with the new League Phase and Newcastle United secured another big Champions League win, which puts them firmly on track to reach the Knock Out Rounds.
Eddie Howe is going to want his players to use that momentum to take into the Premier League where Newcastle United's form has been much more mixed this season. The Magpies were beaten last Saturday at the Amex Stadium and that means they are 14th in the League table and with 9 points on the board. They have a 2-0-2 record at St James' Park in the top flight where Newcastle United have scored 6 goals and conceded 5.
Newcastle United beat Benfica 3-0 at home on Tuesday and they have won 4 of their last 6 games in all competitions, although both exceptions in that run have ended in defeat. That victory in the Champions League also means Newcastle United have won 4 of their last 6 games here in all competitions and they did beat Nottingham Forest in the last Premier League game played at St James' Park.
The squad that was available to the manager on Tuesday is set to be ready to go again. Both Lewis Hall and Yoane Wissa are still trending towards returns before the next international break, but this is a long season and they will not be asked to rush.
Fulham
Manager Marco Silva was linked with the vacant role at Nottingham Forest for a brief moment, but Fulham have him tied down to a contract with a big release clause. There is no doubt that Silva has been a success at Craven Cottage, but you do have to wonder if the Club can match the ambitions that the manager clearly has.
Focus has to be on preparing his team for a long trip to the North East and helping Fulham bounce back from a home loss to Arsenal last time out. They have a decent chance to reach the Quarter Final of the League Cup during the week, but Marco Silva will want his team to focus on improving Fulham's 15th place standing in the Premier League table. The side have a 0-1-3 away record in the top flight where Fulham have scored 3 goals, but conceded 9.
Fulham returned from the September international break to win 3 games in a row in all competitions, but they have now suffered 3 consecutive League defeats to slow momentum. The away form has to be a concern with Fulham having lost 3 away Premier League games in succession and conceding at least twice in each of those defeats. Perhaps even more disappointing is that Fulham scored first at Aston Villa and Bournemouth, but lost both games 3-1.
Tom Cairney is hoping to be able to travel with the squad, but Fulham are set to be without Antonee Robinson, Joachim Andersen, Sasa Lukic and Rodrigo Muniz.
Head to Head
Fulham did the Premier League double over Newcastle United last season.
They had lost twice in a row in this part of the North East and fell behind in the last fixture at St James' Park, but Fulham were able to turn that around in a 1-2 win.
Prediction
Eight rounds of fixtures have been played in the Premier League and there are very few teams who have shown consistency, both at the top and bottom of the table.
Newcastle United and Fulham may be 14th and 15th respectively, but one win would see them move into a position to challenge for the European spots in the Division.
On the other hand, a defeat would just allow teams below them to close in a little closer and so both Eddie Howe and Marco Silva will be looking for the squads to just find some positive momentum.
Both were beaten last weekend- Newcastle United away from home and Fulham at Craven Cottage.
However, you have to give the edge to Newcastle United with the early signs this season that home form may be a stronger edge than it has been in the last couple of campaigns. 6 of the 9 points earned by Newcastle United have been picked up at St James' Park and they have just beaten Benfica pretty convincingly in the Champions League.
Those extra commitments could be tough for players to deal with having had no European Football last season, but Eddie Howe knows there is enough preparation time for his team to come out and put Fulham under pressure.
Marco Silva's team have only earned one away point this season and that came courtesy of a goal deep into injury time at the Amex Stadium on the opening weekend of the season. Since then, Fulham have been conceding away goals for fun and the absence of Joachim Andersen will be a blow.
In the last couple of fixtures hosted by Newcastle United, the home team have really been creating strong opportunities in the final third and they should be able to do the same against this Fulham team. With Anthony Gordon and Nick Woltemade helping The Toon Army forget about Alexander Isak, it is expected that Newcastle United are going to score at least twice in another winning effort in front of the home supporters this weekend.
