Brighton v Leeds United
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 1st November 2025 - Kick Off 3pm

Brighton

The final week in October has ended in disappointing fashion for Brighton Football Club and the fans will be incredibly upset at the opportunity they missed in the League Cup. Despite travelling to face a much changed Arsenal team, Brighton's wastefulness in the final third was punished and that means they can concentrate on the Premier League for the next two months before the FA Cup comes around.

Those months will be busy with a lot of football to be played, but Brighton need to build some momentum and Fabian Hurzeler is likely well aware that failure to return to UEFA competition will put him under increasing pressure. The Seagulls are 13th in the Premier League table after the heavy defeat at Old Trafford last Saturday, but they return home this weekend where Brighton have a 2-2-0 record.

Brighton had travelled up to the North West unbeaten in 4 games in all competitions during which time they had won 3 times, but October ended with consecutive away defeats. They have not won 2 in a row at the Amex Stadium in the same season since March, but Brighton can change that narrative having beaten Newcastle United 2-1 most recently.

Joel Veltman, James Milner, Kaoru Mitoma and Brajan Gruda are hoping to return before the November international break, but this weekend may be too soon.

Leeds United

The early exit from the League Cup will have hurt the fans, but it does mean the squad and the manager have had plenty of time to work on the training ground ahead of the next Premier League game. There is no doubt that survival in the top flight is the biggest ambition for Leeds United over the coming months and they have shown they can compete at this level.

Three points were secured in the last round of Premier League fixtures and that has pushed Leeds United up into 15th place in the table and with a 6 point gap to 18th placed Nottingham Forest. This is a long journey down to the South Coast for a Leeds United team that have a 1-0-3 record away from home in the top flight this season.

Leeds United and Daniel Farke may have felt it was incredibly harsh on the team to have lost back to back Premier League games, but they snapped that run in the 2-1 home win over West Ham United last time out. The side have failed to score in 3 of the 4 away League games played this season and lost all of those, but Leeds United did beat Wolves 1-3 at Molineux.

Gabriel Gudmundsson picked up a knock in the win over West Ham United, but has had time to recover and could be available. Wilfried Gnonto is another edging closer to a return.

Head to Head

These clubs last met in the 2022/23 season and it was Brighton who picked up four points from the two Premier League fixtures.

The majority were earned from a 1-0 home win and Brighton have now won 6 of the last 7 when hosting Leeds United.

Prediction

Teams in the Premier League are all struggling for consistency between home and away results and Brighton are no different than the majority that make up the twenty team Division.

66% of the points secured this season have been at the Amex Stadium and so there is a real feeling that Brighton can bounce back from consecutive away defeats suffered over the last week.

Fabian Hurzeler is still looking for his team to show a bit more in the final third and Brighton have been a little vulnerable when teams have gotten forward to test this backline. That also makes them feel short when odds on to win any game of football, but Brighton have been stronger at the Amex Stadium and have usually enjoyed recent visits from Leeds United.

All credit has to be given to Daniel Farke for guiding his team to a victory over West Ham United last time out, which has pushed Leeds United into 15th place in the Premier League table. Visiting teams to Elland Road know they will be tested and nothing will come easy and the manager is now looking to find a way for that to be the case when Leeds United have to travel.

This is a team that have looked dangerous going forward, but they did not bring in the quality in the forward areas that the manager had wanted in the summer transfer window. It has led to some wastefulness and Leeds United have not scored in 3 of the 4 away League games played this season.

They should have scored at Turf Moor in a 2-0 defeat a couple of weeks ago, but that overall performance sums up how things have been for Leeds United this season- there is quality in the work being done into the final third, but the finishing has been erratic and it may be something the board addresses in the January transfer window.

For now Leeds United have to find a way to goal at the Amex Stadium where Brighton have been pretty decent this season.

Scoring has been problematic for Leeds United for some time when visiting Brighton and they have failed to do that in any of the last 7 fixtures played at the Amex Stadium.

And while there has been elements of the Leeds United organisation that deserves respect, keeping teams out has still been an issue and so Brighton look about right to win this game. The Seagulls have scored in every game played at home this season and in each of the last 8 home Premier League games and there is every chance that one goal will be enough to pick up the three points on offer.
