Football: English Premier League
Saturday 1st November 2025 - Kick Off 3pm
Crystal Palace
The League Cup Quarter Final Round is scheduled for the same week that Crystal Palace will conclude their Conference League Group Stage and so a potential fixture pile-up is coming up. In saying that, most Crystal Palace fans have to be proud of the fact that the Club have moved so far forward under the guidance of Oliver Glasner that these kind of 'problems' are around.
Another win over Liverpool has guided Crystal Palace into the League Cup Quarter Final months after winning the FA Cup, but the manager will still be demanding more consistency in the Premier League performances. The Eagles are 10th in the table after losing at Arsenal last Sunday, while there will be some disappointment in the 1-3-0 record at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace had a long unbeaten run snapped at Everton last month and that sparked a run of 4 games without a win in all competitions during which time the team had been beaten 3 times. The win at Anfield on Wednesday will just have reignited some fading confidence, but Crystal Palace have been held by Bournemouth and been beaten by AEK Larnaca in home games following the 2-1 win over Liverpool in the League.
Chris Richards missed the win at Anfield in the League Cup and is considered a doubt.
Brentford
The hosts are not the only London Club who have made it through to the League Cup Quarter Final in unexpected fashion and all credit has to be given to Keith Andrews and the Brentford squad for how they have worked through the opening three months of the season. There is a real togetherness in this part of West London and fans will be dreaming of bigger things than merely avoiding the drop after the way results have developed.
That Cup Quarter Final is going to be played in December, but for now the concentration is on the Premier League where Brentford are 11th in the table and 8 points clear of the relegation zone. The Bees have earned the majority of the League points at the Gtech Community Stadium and will make the relatively short journey to South London with a 1-0-3 away record in the top flight.
Brentford will be heading into this fixture with the confidence of having won 4 of the last 5 games played in all competitions, including the last 3 in a row. Last weekend they beat Champions Liverpool at home, while Brentford have won consecutive away fixtures at West Ham United and Grimsby Town and both without conceding a goal.
Aaron Hickey and Yegor Yarmoliuk are both doubts for this fixture, but will be hoping to return next weekend at the latest.
Head to Head
Brentford did the Premier League double over Crystal Palace last season and both games ended in 2-1 wins.
Crystal Palace had been unbeaten in 7 at home against Brentford prior to the loss back in January, although they have won 1 of the last 4 at Selhurst Park against this London rival.
Prediction
If you merely were checking the underlying numbers, you would have to consider Crystal Palace 'under-performers', which feels incredibly harsh.
However, even the eye test would suggest that Crystal Palace should have beaten Sunderland and Bournemouth in home games in the Premier League.
They created some glorious opportunities in those matches, but had to settle for draws both times and The Eagles would have been perched in a much more impressive spot in the League table if they had those four extra points on the board.
After winning at Anfield, Crystal Palace will be playing this fixture with confidence, but they have been struggling for home wins all season. It does make the odds on quote for a home win look a tad short, although Crystal Palace are hosting a Brentford team who have not been nearly as effective on their travels as they have been at the Gtech Community Stadium.
In saying that, Brentford have won consecutive away games at West Ham United and Grimsby Town without conceding a goal. Sandwiched in-between those wins is another victory against Liverpool at home and Brentford have only lost 1 of the last 4 visits to Selhurst Park.
Keith Andrews has his team playing with confidence and they bring a real threat from set pieces, although Brentford are a little vulnerable at the back. Those clean sheets at the London Stadium and Blundell Park will make them feel better, but Crystal Palace are far more dangerous than a struggling West Ham United and a League Two opponent.
Brentford cannot be underestimated and they did win here in January, although the four goals scored against Crystal Palace last season involved Bryan Mbeumo (twice) and Yoane Wissa. The Bees have shown they can fill the big shoes that have been left behind, but Brentford had been pretty poor in away losses at Sunderland and Fulham prior to the win over an awful West Ham United on Monday Night Football.
Nothing is going to come easy, but Crystal Palace have players in attacking areas that can exploit some of the defensive vulnerabilities of the visiting team and Oliver Glasner's may edge towards an important three points.
