Hamburger SV dramatically won 2-1 against VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga last weekend, but then lost on penalties and got eliminated from the DFB Cup by Holstein Kiel.

They are a shaky side, inconsistent, and likely to battle against Bundesliga relegation until the very end. They lost four of their last five Bundesliga matches, but sit four points above the relegation zone before this round.

Hamburger SV still has trouble scoring, only scoring 11 goals in 12 games so far, one of the worst records.

They were slightly better at home, though, where they won three of their last five Bundesliga matches, losing just once.

One of Hamburger SV’s scorers last week, Robert Glatzel, got injured in that game and is unlikely to play in this game. Also, their other striker, Alexander Rossing-Lelesiit, who assisted last week, got red-carded and is suspended for this match.

Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen have been very unpredictable lately. Despite losing only once in their last six matches, they never connected two good displays or results in a row.

After losing 2-0 to RB Leipzig, they drew 1-1 against Koln last week, in a match in which their captain, Niklas Stark, received a red card and will not play this weekend.

At away stadiums, Werder Bremen has only beaten Borussia Monchengladbach this season and is now winless in four straight (two defeats, two draws).

The Betting Verdict

This game is a regional, northern derby which motivates both sides. However, both have been so unpredictable this season, and this game can go either way.

Werder Bremen is the better side overall and has left a better impression, but they have struggled in recent matches.

Hamburger SV can be tough at home, more resilient, but I am not prepared to back them just yet.

Goals in both nets should land, considering the way of play of both teams, so that is the bet I am going for.
