There will have been a lot of positives to take from the performance at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday, but points matter to managers and ultimately Bournemouth were undone very late on. Marco Rose is going to be preparing The Cherries for Europa League Football, but he will be hoping Chelsea's interest in Alex Scott is not firmed up and also that the board are working on strengthening his options ahead of the close of the summer transfer window.

If you had told a Bournemouth fan that they were going to lose 2-1 at Manchester City, that fan would unlikely to have been surprised or that disappointed. However, game state matters and Bournemouth will have felt they had largely handled the home team when leading 0-1 late on, but only to be undone by poor defensive shape from a set piece. The side will be looking to make amends at the Vitality Stadium where Bournemouth finished with a 7-10-2 record last season.

Bournemouth had looked set to make it 19 Premier League games unbeaten late on at the Etihad Stadium, but it was not to be for the team. This weekend they will take aim at extending the 9 home Premier League game unbeaten run, although Marco Rose will want to help Bournemouth find a way to turn a few more draws into wins. Some of the comments made by David Moyes ahead of the League Cup Second Round tie at Preston North End did not go down very well with the fans, but a strong team helped Everton progress. The draw has been relatively kind and a couple of strong domestic Cup runs is expected by the supporters who have been starved of silverware.

At the same time, David Moyes wants to help Everton finish inside the top eight of the Premier League table and see if he can take The Toffees back into European Football. Doing so would give the club a financial boost at a time when they have just moved into Hill Dickinson Stadium and the first week of the season will feel like a very positive one as far as Everton are concerned.

Everton began the season with a 2-0 home win over Crystal Palace and followed up with the thumping win at Preston North End and that gives the team early momentum. This start will feel that much better when noting Everton had failed to win any of the last 7 Premier League games to conclude the last campaign and had been beaten in 4 of those. Everton won at Deepdale, but have not won any of the last 5 away Premier League games and have earned 2 points in that time.

Christian Norgaard is a doubt, but Hayden Hackney should be available to travel with the squad to the South Coast. A strong Everton team began the win over Preston North End, which came as something of a surprise.

Head to Head

Both Premier League meetings between Bournemouth and Everton ended with an away win last season.

Bournemouth had been unbeaten in 8 at home against Everton in all competitions and had won 7 of those matches before the 0-1 defeat in December 2025.

Prediction

Before this fixture will take place, Bournemouth fans, players and management will have seen the Europa League draw as they prepare to play in Europe for the first time.

Keeping this squad intact is the key for Marco Rose, although he would like to see some additions too, and the Bournemouth performance against Manchester City will have given the new manager something to work with.

He will be disappointed a 0-1 lead late in that fixture turned into a 2-1 defeat, but Bournemouth had been unbeaten in 18 Premier League games before that loss. They are still unbeaten in 9 Premier League games at the Vitality Stadium, although Rose will be tasked with turning a few of the draws into wins after the run of stalemates to conclude last season.

Bournemouth will need to be aware of the start that Everton have made to the new season with Thierno Barry looking like he might be ready to take the next step in his development. A consistent goalscorer has been missing for Everton for several years, but Barry may be ready to fill the gap with four goals scored already.

David Moyes will be pleased, but may be asking the board to back him with more new faces ahead of the close of the summer transfer window. The experienced manager will also be aware that Everton's win over Crystal Palace could have turned out very different if the visiting team had shown a bit more composure in the final third.

Everton may feel they can hurt this Bournemouth team that are under a new manager, but containing them is the challenge. They managed to do that in a 0-1 win here last season, but The Toffees had been in a good moment of the campaign and playing at the Vitality Stadium has not usually ended very well for them.

Respect has to be given to Everton, who only lost 7 of 19 away League games last season.

They should be able to cause some problems, but Bournemouth may not be as wasteful as Crystal Palace and The Cherries look worthy of getting behind at odds against quotes.
