Real Betis

Real Betis go into this one looking to bounce back from a chastening night. Manuel Pellegrini's side began the campaign in style with back-to-back 1-0 wins over Real Sociedad and Valencia, only to be blown away 5-2 at home by Levante last time out. That result left them seventh and exposed some worrying gaps at the back.

There is still plenty to like about this Betis team. They enjoyed a strong last campaign that earned them a return to European football, and at La Cartuja they carry real belief, having held Madrid to a 1-1 draw when the sides last met here in April. Rodrigo Riquelme's pace on the break and the craft of Fornals and Lo Celso give them a genuine route to goal.

The concern is obvious after shipping five at home. Pellegrini needs a far tighter, more connected midfield to protect a back line that looked badly overrun, and doing that against Mbappe and company is a tall order. If Betis commit both full-backs forward, one turnover can quickly become a Madrid breakaway, so balance will be everything.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid arrive in Andalusia flying, and under a very familiar face. Jose Mourinho returned to the Bernabeu this summer for a sensational second spell, and the Special One has his side purring with three wins from three to open the league. Away success at Espanyol plus home routs of Real Sociedad and Malaga have brought ten goals and maximum points.

The attacking numbers are frightening. Los Blancos have racked up at least three goals in eight of their last nine outings, with Kylian Mbappe in ruthless touch and Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler all chipping in. Mourinho has blended his trademark defensive structure with a devastating transition game that suits this squad perfectly.

The only slight caveat is timing. A Champions League opener against Inter Milan looms next week, which could tempt Mourinho into freshening a few legs. Even so, the strength in depth at his disposal means any rotation is unlikely to blunt the threat, and Madrid will fancy their chances of a sixth straight win in all competitions.

Betting Verdict

This has the makings of an open, entertaining contest. Madrid are deserved favourites at around 1.44 and look a class above, but Betis are dangerous at home and have just shown they will not sit back and die quietly. The outright home win holds little appeal at that price.

The goals market is where the value sits. Madrid have been scoring for fun, Betis are leaking at the back yet still carry a threat going forward, and each of the last three meetings between these teams produced goals at both ends. Pitting the division's most potent attack against a rattled Betis defence points firmly towards a high-scoring night.
