Spanish La Liga
2026-10-10 - Real Madrid vs Villarreal
A Sports Betting Preview by Gladiator
Football: Spain: La Liga - Round 8
Estadio Santiago Bernabéu (Madrid), Spain
Saturday, 10th October 2026 - Kick-Off 21:00 CEST
Real Madrid
Real Madrid return to La Liga action under considerable pressure after a disappointing start to the season. José Mourinho's side have collected 15 points from seven matches and already find themselves six points behind leaders Barcelona.
Los Blancos suffered a frustrating 2-1 defeat against Atlético Madrid before the international break, having previously lost to Real Betis. Nevertheless, their attacking quality remains unquestionable, with 18 goals scored in seven league matches.
Defensive injuries continue to cause problems. Éder Militão, Ferland Mendy and Raúl Asencio remain sidelined, while Dean Huijsen is suspended. Federico Valverde is also a fitness concern. Mourinho will therefore need to reorganise his defence against opponents capable of causing problems on the counterattack.
Villarreal
Villarreal have endured an inconsistent beginning to the campaign, collecting eight points from their first seven matches. However, Marcelino's team have recently shown signs of improvement with consecutive league victories.
The Yellow Submarine have scored 13 league goals but are still searching for their first clean sheet of the season. Their defensive vulnerability could become a serious problem against Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Junior and Jude Bellingham.
Tajon Buchanan is unavailable through injury, but Villarreal still possess enough attacking talent to threaten Madrid's weakened defence. Their willingness to attack rather than simply defend could produce an entertaining encounter.
Betting Verdict
This fixture has regularly delivered goals, and there are several reasons to expect another open contest at the Bernabéu.
Seven of the last nine meetings have seen both teams score, while Villarreal have failed to keep a clean sheet in their opening seven league matches this season.
Real Madrid should create numerous opportunities at home, but their defensive absences make another clean sheet far from certain. Villarreal have enough attacking quality to exploit those problems, particularly if Mourinho's side commit players forward.
Backing Both Teams to Score: Yes + Over 2.5 Goals looks more appealing than relying on a straightforward home victory.
The Pick :
Real Madrid 3-1 Villarreal
