Preview

The fine margins in any Major League Baseball game become that much grander in the post-season and the Tampa Bay Rays will feel they missed an opportunity in Game 1. They did score twice in the 1st Inning, but leaving the bases loaded came back to bite them when the Cleveland Guardians found some life in the last 4 Innings to secure the road win.

Doing that without the frontline starters on the mound will have given the Guardians a huge boost and all of the pressure is on the Tampa Bay Rays to try and level the American League Championship Series before the shift to Cleveland.

Another defeat means the Rays would have to win at least two of the three road games coming up to have a chance to play at Tropicana Field again and that does build up the pressure on the players.

While the Rays have something to figure out, the Cleveland Guardians could not be much happier with what they produced in Game 1 to win a fourth straight Playoff game. The batters have not found their groove at home, but it has been a different story in the three road Playoff wins Cleveland have put together this season and that makes them very dangerous.

It helps that the Guardians can turn to Parker Messick in Game 2, although the second year pitcher had a difficult time in the Divisional Round. He has shown how good he can be, but Messick allowed four runs in the 6 and a bit Innings thrown across two starts against the Chicago White Sox and the Guardians will want this pitcher to try and go a little longer in Game 2 of this Series.

Parker Messick has plenty of family and friends who are going to make a short journey to see him pitch at Tropicana Field and that may offer some encouragement. In both previous appearances in this ballpark, Parker Messick has been very strong with just two runs allowed in almost 14 Innings thrown, but the Playoff pressure is very different.

Tampa Bay will counter with Freddy Peralta who ended the regular season in very good form and who just restricted the New York Yankees to a single run into the 5th Inning in the Divisional Round of the Playoffs. This is an extremely experienced pitcher who will know the importance of laying a strong foundation for the Rays after the Game 1 defeat, but Freddy Peralta will be facing the Cleveland Guardians for the first time since allowing four runs into the 6th Inning as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers last year.

Freddy Peralta has enjoyed pitching at Tropicana Field and has allowed just three runs in the last 20 plus Innings thrown on this field.

Prediction

The Playoffs are all about finding the big Hits at the right time and the Cleveland Guardians look to be doing that with four straight post-season wins in a row.

Making it five will be tough against a scrappy Tampa Bay Rays team, but the Guardians batters are looking more in rhythm compared with their counterparts.

That could be a difference maker in a Game 2 where both teams will be confident in the pitcher they are sending to the mound.
