Preview

The hopes of winning the World Series for a third season in a row have been hit hard after the Los Angeles Dodgers were beaten by the Milwaukee Brewers for a second time in the National League Championship Series. Twelve months ago the Dodgers were returning home with a 2-0 lead and they ended up completing the sweep over Milwaukee, but this time they are 0-2 behind in the Series and looking to make sure they win at least two games at home to force a Game 6 back on the road.

One day of rest between games has given the Dodgers a chance to just reassess and make adjustments as they look to spark the Offensive unit. The pitching in Game 2 disappointed, but Los Angeles have struggled for consistency at the plate and there are even suggestions that Shohei Ohtani could be left out.

He has struggled in the Playoffs and it is clear the superstar batter is not feeling at his best, which has given Manager Dave Roberts something to think about.

A press conference on Tuesday suggests that the Dodgers will keep faith with Shohei Ohtani, but they will need him to find a spark like many of the other superstar names on the batting roster.

Los Angeles will hand the ball to Blake Snell on the return home and the Dodgers will be confidence in the experience they are sending to the mound. In the Divisional Round, Blake Snell only allowed a single run to the Atlanta Braves, but he needed 90 Pitches and did not complete the 4th Inning and so there is going to be some pressure on Snell to have a longer outing.

Blake Snell only made nine regular season starts this season and he did not face the Brewers in those. However, Snell will give himself some confidence by thinking back to the 2025 Playoffs when one of his starts ended in 8 Innings thrown and holding Milwaukee scoreless in helping the Dodgers earn a win on the road.

There is pressure on Blake Snell having seen the Brewers make a lot of contact at the plate and force pitchers to dig deep.

The Brewers will also feel Robert Gasser can at least help keep the team competitive and increase the tension on the home crowd and the home starting pitcher.

Robert Gasser started in the Playoffs for the first time when restricting the San Diego Padres to a single run in 4 Innings thrown in the Divisional Round. He has been expected to be used as an opener, but Robert Gasser has made 20 starts for Milwaukee in the regular season and showed in the win over the Padres that he can mow through the batting lineup at least twice.

Milwaukee will have confidence in the bullpen who have begun this National League Championship Series in strong fashion, especially if Gasser gets into any early difficulty. He faced the Los Angeles Dodgers twice this season and Robert Gasser allowed seven runs in just under 11 Innings thrown, while he also ended up taking the decision loss both times.

The Dodgers lost three of four when hosting the Milwaukee Brewers in August.

Prediction

The plan for the Milwaukee Brewers has to be looking to force Blake Snell to throw a lot of pitches for any Outs he records and try and get into the Los Angeles bullpen again.

This is where the Brewers were able to take control of this National League Championship Series by winning Game 2, but the Dodgers do have an early edge on the mound.

Milwaukee will certainly believe they can win any game where the bullpens have to be used extensively, but that may need Robert Gasser to have a better outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Robert Gasser is not expected to get more than the 4 Innings thrown in the Divisional Round barring a lot of early trouble, but it is an opportunity for the Dodgers to try and earn an early lead and perhaps ride that to a win in Game 3 to halve the deficit in the Series.
