A Sports Betting Preview by Auls

Brentford v Liverpool
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 17th October 2026 - Kick Off 3pm

Brentford

After conceding minutes following the opening goal, Brentford earned a measure of revenge against Aston Villa by equalising soon after falling 2-1 behind and the point is another positive result for Keith Andrews and his team. It also means Brentford remain unbeaten in the 2026/27 season and they are one of three Premier League clubs yet to taste a defeat in the top flight.

The Bees are flying high in 4th place in the Premier League table and they have 10 points on the board, although the manager will be hoping a few draws can be turned into wins. Last season, 13 draws cost Brentford the chance of playing in Europe for the first time and they have 4 more already this season. The side have been better at the Gtech Community Stadium and Brentford have a 2-1-0 record here.

Brentford are unbeaten in all 8 games played this season in all competitions and that has extended the unbeaten run to 10 overall. They are unbeaten in 8 at home going back to last season, but Keith Andrews will be pleased with having overseen 2 wins from 3 after ending last season guiding Brentford to 4 draws from the last 5 home games played.

Jannick Schuster, Nathan Collins and Mikkel Damsgaard are hoping to be available for selection. Kevin Schade came off with an injury last weekend and has to be considered a doubt.

Liverpool

Andoni Iraola and the travelling Liverpool fans will have wanted to see a positive response to the defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League and the thumping 3-6 win at LASK will have given the manager plenty to be pleased about. The fact his squad were able to produce that Champions League win without a number of key performers will give Iraola a lot of encouragement, but this is another big test for his team.

The first Premier League defeat of the season saw Liverpool slip down into 9th place in the Division having secured 9 points early in the campaign. The surprise is that the majority of those points have been earned away from Anfield and Liverpool travel to West London with a 2-1-0 away record in the top flight.

Liverpool's first loss under Andoni Iraola was influenced by a harsh red card given to Ryan Gravenberch while the game against Manchester City was goalless, but the win on Wednesday means they have won 3 of the last 4 games played in all competitions. Since the late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at St James' Park, Liverpool have won 3 away games in a row in all competitions.

Ryan Gravenberch is suspended and the manager stated that Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak all remain doubtful.

Head to Head

Brentford earned four points against Liverpool last season thanks mainly to the 3-2 win at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Liverpool had won consecutive visits to this ground prior to that defeat in October 2025.

Prediction

There have been plenty of goals when Brentford and Liverpool have met since the former returned to the top flight, and the layers are anticipating another high-scoring game when they meet in West London on Saturday.

However, both teams could be missing influential attackers and that does lessen the enthusiasm for seeing a lot of goals.

Liverpool conceded three times in Austria on Wednesday, but Andoni Iraola's team have earned back to back away Premier League clean sheets. And prior to the Ryan Gravenberch sending off, Liverpool had defended pretty well against Manchester City last week before some stunning finishing allowed the visiting team to leave Anfield with a handy win.

The underlying numbers in recent Liverpool games have suggested they have been pretty well marshalled at the back, although the absence of Gravenberch is a blow. That is especially the case if Dominik Szoboszlai is not fit enough to start, while the absences of Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak would be a blow.

The Reds did score six against LASK with Bradley Barcola grabbing a hat-trick, but Brentford are likely going to present a much stiffer test than the Austrian Champions were able to do.

Keith Andrews team picked up another point last week, but have perhaps lost Kevin Schade to an injury, which is a blow.

Brentford have continued to particularly impressive at home and they will be narrow favourites to win this fixture, which is a testament to how far they have come as a club. Big wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea show what Brentford are all about, but Sunderland did hold them to a draw at the Gtech Community Stadium and Liverpool may feel they can restrict the chances the home team can create, especially compared to how Spurs and Chelsea performed here.

Playing away from home in Europe and then having to travel for a Premier League game is not going to be easy and so Brentford may do enough to edge to another three points against a 'big six' visitor.

However, Liverpool are likely going to want to set up to make things difficult for the home team and backing fewer than three goals to be shared out looks a big price in a fixture involving The Reds again.
