Leeds United

Daniel Farke has to have been pleased with the overall intensity and desire shown by his Leeds United team in the 2-1 loss at Arsenal last weekend, although he may have had a different result to celebrate if not conceding the equaliser just seven minutes after taking the lead. Overall there is much to like about the Leeds United performances this season and there will be little motivation needed for the Elland Road to get behind the players when Manchester United visit Yorkshire.

The loss at the Emirates Stadium is the first defeat suffered in the Premier League this season, but Leeds United remain in 7th place and 9 points on the board is a solid return. Daniel Farke made it clear he wants the owners to match his ambitions for the club and everyone seems to be pulling in the same direction as Leeds United look to improve the 1-2-0 record at home.

Leeds United have won 1 of the last 6 games in all competitions and suffered a couple of defeats in that time, although both losses came away from Elland Road. They were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace in the last game at home, but that has extended Leeds United's run to 8 unbeaten at Elland Road in all competitions and they have won 5 times in that run.

Daniel James is hoping to be available to play one of his former clubs, but both Mateo Joseph and Joe Rodon are expected to miss out.

Manchester United

No one expected Manchester United's trip to Atletico Madrid to be anything but a stiff test for this squad that has been lacking confidence and that proved to be the case. Michael Carrick can point to some positives, but the defending was simply not good enough and Lisandro Martinez created huge headlines by taking aim at criticising those in the boardroom.

Most fans would largely agree with what Martinez had to say for himself, but it creates another headache for the manager who is under significant pressure following a really poor start to the season. His team are not only 13th in the Premier League table, but Manchester United are closer in terms of points to the bottom three than the top six. The side will be travelling into the lion's den with a 0-2-1 away record in the Premier League this season having scored 3 goals and conceded 5.

Manchester United have won 1 of the last 7 games in all competitions and that was against Sabah at Old Trafford on Match Day 1 of the Champions League. They have failed to win any of the 4 away games played in all competitions this season and Manchester United have lost twice in that run, while drawing at Hill Dickinson Stadium and Craven Cottage.

Partrick Dorgu and Benjamin Sesko are expected to return after the next international break, while both Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo are doubts after missing out on Tuesday. All eyes will be on the centre half selection after Lisandro Martinez' comments following the defeat in the Spanish capital, but it would be a real surprise if he starts.

Head to Head

Leeds United took four points from Manchester United last season and the majority were earned from a 1-2 win at Old Trafford.

The game at Elland Road ended 1-1 and is most notable for being the last Ruben Amorim took charge of Manchester United.

It is also a result that means Leeds United have not beaten Manchester United in twenty-four years at Elland Road.

Prediction

If this fixture had been played a month ago, Manchester United would likely have been narrow favourites to win here.

That was the case when Manchester United played at Elland Road in January in what turned out to be Ruben Amorim's last game in charge.

This is not expected to be the case for Michael Carrick regardless of the result, but a huge amount of pressure is building on the manager just months after having his interim tag removed.

He has not been helped by Lisandro Martinez' comments on Tuesday following the defeat to Atletico Madrid and this is the last game Manchester United could have wanted to try and bounce back.

Elland Road is going to create a hostile environment for the visitors and it is one in which the Leeds United players have thrived. They are unbeaten in 8 at home in all competitions and Leeds United have won 5 of those matches, while the intensity and desire of the team is going to give them a real edge.

You wouldn't argue with anyone that would want to back Leeds United, although the defensive numbers have not been that impressive this season. They did earn a clean sheet against Crystal Palace last time out here, but the visiting team had chances and Manchester United do have some quality players in the final third that can find a goal.

However, containing Leeds United looks a very different test and Manchester United have not defended well enough to believe they can do that effectively. If Lisandro Martinez is disciplined and left out, the defence becomes that much weaker with the likes of Luke Shaw also expected to miss out and the squad needing to be managed through a period where games are being played every three or four days.

Picking a winner is not the angle that will be taken here.

Instead you have to feel Manchester United are going to have to weather some serious attacks and the left side of the defence could be down both starters if Martinez and Shaw are both absent.

This has been an area Leeds United have tried to attack in recent weeks and Jayden Bogle has been getting into dangerous positions from the right wing back spot.

He has found at least one Shot on Target in 3 of the last 4 Premier League games played, and averages more than one shot per match in that run. Jayden Bogle looks a very big price to add to that when you think Manchester United have allowed defenders like Leif Davis and Ainsley Maitland-Niles to score against them, while Pablo Barrios scored coming in from the right side on Tuesday.

At the price on offer, Jayden Bogle may be the best player to get behind to at least force one save from the Manchester United goalkeeper with the 'Sub Play On' option meaning the selection is active throughout the fixture.

The Pick :

Leeds United 2-1 Manchester United

FIXED ODDS BETTING :

I'll back Jayden Bogle Over 0.5 Shots on Target at 3.75 with Bet365 (Sub On Play On)
