The Tampa Bay Rays needed something from the batting lineup before seeing the top of the Cleveland starting rotation and they found that on Saturday to level up the American League Championship Series. The victory means this Series is now a best of three with the Guardians hosting Game 5 before everyone shifts back to Tropicana Field for Game 6 and, potentially, Game 7.

Momentum is with the Rays, but this is a Series that has gone back and forth and there is going to be a lot of confidence in the Cleveland dugout to believe they can get things turned back in their favour.

It all starts with the pitcher going to the mound as the Cleveland Guardians give the ball back to Parker Messick who started Game 2, which ended in a Cleveland defeat. That is a concern, but there was little wrong with the efforts from Parker Messick, who was let down by some errors in the field.

Backing that up is the final scoreboard as Messick did not give up an earned run in the 5 Innings spent on the mound, although the decision loss was given to the young pitcher. That is down to the fact that all three of Tampa Bay's runs came through errors from his pitches, but Parker Messick will take a great amount of confidence from the way he has performed against the Tampa Bay Rays in 2026.

Tampa Bay will also have faith in the starting pitcher as they go back to Drew Rasmussen who had started Game 1 and who gave up two runs in the 6 Innings he threw in that one. It follows a dominant display against the New York Yankees, although the Guardians did manage to put together eight Hits compared with the Yankees one against Drew Rasmussen.

He may not have had the same kind of numbers that Parker Messick was able to produce against the Tampa Bay Rays in the regular season, but Drew Rasmussen pitched well against the Cleveland Guardians.

However, in a Series that has come down to fine margins, the extra couple of runs and Hits allowed could make the difference.

Prediction

Fans may not have been completely entertained by this American League Championship Series, but it is down to a best of three and that raises the intensity and tension significantly.

Both the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians have to be very confident in the pitcher starting this game, but Drew Rasmussen has perhaps been a little more vulnerable than Parker Messick.

Games have come down to very fine margins in this Series, but this time the Cleveland Guardians could be on the right side after the Tampa Bay Rays levelled the Series on Saturday.
