Chelsea

The thumping loss at West London rivals Brentford just before the last international break left Xabi Alonso with some questions to answer during an extended period between games. He looks to have found some solutions after leading Chelsea to consecutive Premier League wins and Alonso will be looking for the players to maintain that momentum.

The points earned have pushed The Blues back into 4th place in the Premier League table with 13 points secured for the season and finishing in the Champions League places remains the most realistic target. The Blues have a 2-1-0 record at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea have scored 11 goals, but also conceded 6.

Chelsea have lost 1 of the last 5 games played in all competitions and the wins over Bournemouth and Everton in the Premier League has given the squad a lift. They have scored at least twice in all 5 home games played this season in all competitions and it is no surprise that with that firepower Chelsea have won 4 times.

Reece James is a long-term injury absentee and Chelsea lost Emi Martinez to a serious injury last weekend, which will keep him out. Both Malo Gusto and Pep Chavarria are hoping to be involved with the former closer to a return than the latter.

Tottenham Hotspur

Performances in recent weeks may have been encouraging, but Roberto De Zerbi will have been very aware that results matter most to Tottenham Hotspur. He will have been pleased with the attitude shown by the players on Monday night to earn a 3-1 win over Coventry City and De Zerbi will be hoping that gives the squad the belief to put a positive run together.

That victory is also one that pulls Tottenham Hotspur out into 16th place in the Premier League table and a point clear of the bottom three places. There is a real chance that Spurs will kick off on Saturday afternoon back inside the bottom three, but the sole focus has to be on improving the 0-2-1 away record in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur have picked up 4 points in the top flight since the last international break and they have lost 1 of the last 5 Premier League games played. The side have not won any of the last 5 away games in all competitions and Tottenham Hotspur have been beaten 3 times in that run, although did score an injury time equaliser at Old Trafford most recently.

Rodrigo Bentancur is continuing to serve his suspension, while the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Savinho are injured. Pedro Porro is a doubt, as is Destiny Udogie, but Roberto De Zerbi is confident Tosin Adarabioyo, Andy Robertson and Omar Marmoush can travel across London.

Head to Head

Chelsea won both Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur last season.

They have long held a strong home record against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea's 2-1 win in May means they have won 5 of the last 6 when hosting this rival.

Prediction

The Saturday 5:30pm local time kick off in the Premier League has continued to be a time slot in which goals have been hard to find.

Perhaps this is a good time to select Chelsea to host in that broadcast spot considering the attacking football that has been produced under Xabi Alonso. The Blues have scored 11 goals in just 3 Premier League games at Stamford Bridge, but the fact they have only conceded once in two games since the international break will have pleased the manager the most.

Chelsea will score goals as long as Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Joao Pedro are on the pitch and they will certainly feel they have the firepower to hurt rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

There is no doubting the chances that Chelsea can create, but there is still room for improvement defensively and this is something Roberto De Zerbi will want his Tottenham Hotspur team to exploit.

A nervy win over Coventry City will have done the players the world of good- merely earning three points will have boosted the confidence and Tottenham Hotspur have been able to play with a bit more freedom away from the pressurised environment created at home.

Roberto De Zerbi will look to the performance at Old Trafford two weeks ago as the one he wants Tottenham Hotspur to replicate, but he will also be aware that Chelsea will bring a lot more intensity into the contest than Manchester United seemingly had.

Games at Stamford Bridge have tended to end poorly for Tottenham Hotspur and that is a mindset that may be difficult to shake off.

We should be entertained in this live fixture, but the edges have to be with Chelsea, even with a backup goalkeeper needing to start. The attacking third is where Chelsea can really take over this contest and they can overwhelm Tottenham Hotspur by continuing the streak of scoring at least twice in every game played at home under Xabi Alonso.
